This Week

One of the comments we frequently
hear is about the
HFM's fabulous Hingham Harbor location. And last week market-goers were lucky to be on the scene to watch the Hingham High School varsity eight (above) attempt to break the world record of hauling a water skier - and they did it! Reporting on the record-breaking event, USA Today wrote: "By pulling the team's coxswain (and waterskier) Cotter McCarthy for 4:08.22, the Harbormen easily topped the record of 54 seconds previously held by the crew team at Stanford University." Congratulations! (For the full story, read more at

A reminder if you want the tastiest turkey around - order it now from Copicut Farms. It's easy: just visit them at their stand and place your order for a small, medium or large turkey ($5.69/lb., $35 deposit). Pick up is Sunday, November 20, 1 to 3 p.m., at the Hingham Bathing Beach (HFM parking lot). If you can't make it to the market to order a turkey, go to their site at www.copicutfarms.com and visit the online store. The turkeys from Copicut Farms are the best tasting turkeys around.

Opening the Market
New vendor Herbert Elsner rang the bell to open the October 15 market.
     H
e began turning wood five years ago when he retired from Raytheon; since
then he has created hundreds of custom items (see sampling below). His work
     is truly beautiful.
Market Seen
Another beautiful Saturday brought out a record number of market-goers for
the month of October. Top left (and then clockwise): market regulars
Bonnie and
Fred Delay stop by to say hello to Tom Jordan at Jordan Bros. Seafood; visiting
     from Burlington, Vermont,
Phoebe Judge with children Ruthie and Theo Lyons
Judge pose for a family photo with aunt Linda Luke, vice president of the

HFM and frequent staffer at the Friends of the Hingham Farmers Market tent;

Uncommon Grounds proprietor Diana Currier (right) and Mandy Williamson
     owner of
Mandy's Wicked Good Chowdah.
Fall Bounty
As much as we all love tomatoes, corn, berries and other early to mid-season
produce, one has to admit that this array is a stunning selection of fall
     offerings from
HFM vendors Oakdale, Freitas and Second Nature farms.
With the warm weather we've had this fall, this bounty should continue for the
     foreseeable future.
