This Week at the HFM
Tomatoes are in! It's just the beginning, but Second Nature Farm has heirlooms and it's possible that by now other produce vendors will begin to harvest their tomato crops as well.
A gentle reminder: we ask that all market-goers please take great care and NOT leave their dogs in the car. Last week people noticed three different dogs left in cars.
If anyone sees a situation that looks troublesome or even dangerous - like a pet locked in a car on a hot day - please notify a market administrator or Friend - at the
Friends of the Hingham Farmers Market booth - and they will notify the Hingham police to resolve the matter.
Hingham Board of Health regulations do not permit dogs inside the market area. If you do have your dog with you, check with the Friends of the Hingham Farmers Market  - in most instances a Friend will be happy to watch your dog for a short time while you shop.

Opening the Market
Judy White of Narragansett Creamery rang the bell to signal the opening of the July 23 market. Narragansett Creamery started in 2007 when owners Mark and Pattie Federico decided to launch an artisan brand under their umbrella company, Providence Specialty Products. Within a few short years, their cheeses have become a trusted name throughout New England. For a listing of their fabulous cheeses and more information on the company, check out www.richeeses.com. For a wonderful recipe using cheese and other ingredients from the HFM, see below for "Peach Caprese Salad."

Market-goers may remember that Narragansett Creamery took home the blue ribbon for "Crescendo" at the 2015 American Cheese Society Competition.
A very high honor for one of the HFM's vendors.
Market Seen
Top left and clockwise: the Lumbar family of Hingham - mom Deb, sons Cameron, Alex and Caleb and dad John - the triplets are entering Grade 7 at Hingham Middle School; musician Julian Rollins entertains; one can certainly say that market-goers love corn: Freitas Farm corn in the morning and empty table at 1:30 p.m. - the same story at Oakdale Farm and Mary Bukujian; with so much to choose from, Susan Merrill of Hingham was able to buy supplies for an entire week: vegetables, chicken, pork, eggs, flowers, pasta sauce, pizza and pie; Chas Jette holding forth with carrots from Second Nature Farm and yes, the first field tomatoes from Second Nature!
Peach Caprese Salad

2 sliced heirloom or fresh farm tomatoes

     2 sliced peaches

     Season with salt and pepper
     Top with fresh basil
