MARCH 2021

After a year at home, a lot of us are thinking about going somewhere. Whether it’s reconnecting with family, traveling for medical appointments, or taking a true vacation, opportunities are opening up. I started thinking about going somewhere with my family this summer, but it brought back a lot of memories about just how hard that can be when a member of the family has special needs.

I’m a traveler, and a planner, so over the past decade and a half, we’ve taken on some ambitious trips and usually those trips were meticulously planned a year in advance. When Abram was in preschool, we decided to take a train trip. It’s actually a really cool option that few people know about. You load your car on to an Amtrak train, and then travel overnight in a sleeper compartment.

This was a great option to get from Pittsburgh to Florida without someone having to drive all night and arrive exhausted. Or, well, I thought it was a great option...

At Abram’s Nation, we always say that the families are indeed the heart of this company. Every month, we will bring you stories about our families and how The Safety Sleeper® has improved their lives.

Now introducing the Dostal family! Meet Tabitha, Jason, Lillian, Jaylyn, Robby, Madalyn, and William, who is diagnosed with Smith Magenis Syndrome. The Dostal family teaches us that a life of travel and fun is possible even with a special needs diagnosis. Learn more about their family travels here.

Search by ability, have more fun!™

FunAbilities is the world's first search service for people of all abilities.

It connects people with accessibility needs to one another and to businesses that serve them. Participating in the fun of group activities is difficult for people with disabilities due to many, various barriers. Access is limited. Information is hard to find. Fun is minimized for the whole family, and many people simply choose to stay home rather than to sacrifice safety - or comfort - or dignity.

Accessible locations exist, but discovering them requires hours of research, problem-solving, and creativity. FunAbilities helps us search by ability and have more fun! It's a collection of specific features and reviews from experts who live with accessibility needs. The breadth and depth of accessible information shared on FunAbilities is unprecedented and powered by the community of users with accessible knowledge, passion, and need.

It's time for ALL of us to be together, anywhere. Search by ability, have more fun with FunAbilities.

Abram's Nation is proud to welcome back an old, familiar face!
Now introducing Zac Bartlett, our Warehouse Manager.

"When I first worked for the company we were Abram's Bed and not yet scaled up to Abram's Nation. We were actually working in the garage and basement of Rose's house. The company was great to work for because there was always an authenticity behind the mission. Rose was passionate about helping families with situations similar to what she was going through, and that passion carried throughout the team.

The production process back then was very similar to our current style, just with less technology and machinery to help. Back then, there was no "warehouse". We tried to ship every order the day it was finished so we could have room to start on the next one. The team was pretty small then, just a few people in manufacturing, a few in sales / office management and Rose..."

Q: Can I assemble The Safety Sleeper alone as a single parent?

A: Yes! Browse our assembly videos here, and call or message us with any questions when you are assembling. If you haven't already connected with Rose on Facebook, please do so here.
