Inspiration and innovation

Tocal College welcomed its first female students 50 years ago, moving the ag world forward 'in leaps and bounds'. Margo Duncan (pictured) was one of the first women permitted to study at Tocal after it began accepting women in 1972 and now her granddaughter Emilia (pictured) is studying and continuing her legacy. Read more.
Ivanhoe Central School wins national Landcare award for sustainable farm project. School students from a tiny town in far west New South Wales have taken out a national Landcare award, beating groups from cities like Sydney and Melbourne, for their outback adventure farm which is helping to feed their community. Read more.

Applications for the 2023 AgriFutures Rural Women's Award and the 2023 AgriFutures Rural Women's Acceleration Grant open on Wednesday 7 September 2022. Q&A sessions are also being held for people considering applying. Find out more.

The Australian sugar and sugarcane stand at this year's Ekka gave the city an immersive sugar experience and a bird’s eye view of how sugarcane is grown and harvested and how sugar is produced via a Virtual Reality ‘paddock to packet’ tour. Read more.

School and industry news

The NSW School Merino Wether Challenge was held at the end of August with 62 schools entered from across the state and over 500 students attending the event. Overall champion winners were Gunnedah High School. Read more in The Land.
Grant applications are now open for the 2023 Science and Innovation Awards for Young People in Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry! Apply now for a grant of up to $22,000 to fund your project.
