Dear <<First Name>>,

It's officially summer! I'm so happy that case counts are declining and more and more British Columbians are getting vaccinated, because it means Summer 2021 can be one to remember. Outdoor personal gatherings of up to 50 people, indoor personal gatherings of up to 5, recreational travel within BC and more are permitted during Step 2 of BC's Restart.

If we continue obeying restrictions and getting both vaccine doses as soon as we are eligible, I am hopeful that we can move through the steps of BC's Restart as planned.

Happy summer and enjoy the beautiful sunny weather!
BC Parks pilots plans for managing, promoting access to nature

Getting outside is more important than ever and we’re putting in the work to improve the parks and outdoor spaces that we all share. Beginning on June 22, we’re renewing the free day-use pass program at 5 popular parks in B.C. We are creating new campsites, expanding trails, and improving facilities at BC Parks so even more people can experience our province’s magnificent nature.

Committee members needed to help build barrier-free B.C.

Everyone deserves to be able to fully participate in their community, but for too long people with disabilities have faced barriers to engagement. I'm so happy that the Accessible British Columbia Act is now law, because it allows our government to develop new accessibility standards that will address barriers in a range of areas such as employment, education, transportation, as well as buildings and infrastructure.

The first step is to form the Provincial Accessibility Committee to advise the minister of social development and poverty reduction on matters related to accessibility and support the development of accessibility standards. The Provincial Accessibility Committee will consist of up to 11 members appointed by the Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction, at least half of which will be persons with disabilities or disability advocates.

Applications are open for people to serve on the committee. You can find more information here:

Expanded medical device coverage for people with diabetes

People deserve access to medication and treatment options that will support their health and wellbeing. We’re expanding coverage so that thousands of British Columbians can access the life-changing diabetes monitors that help them stay on top of their care and make better treatment decisions. By expanding BC PharmaCare coverage, opening new hospitals and Urgent Primary Care Centres, and slashing wait times for diagnostic services, we are improving health care for all British Columbians.
