Dear <<First Name>>,

Today is Bike To Work Day! Biking is an amazing way to get around without harming the environment and get exercise at the same time. Did you know that there are over 1 billion bicycles currently being used all around the world, and cycling is one of the best pastimes for people who want to reduce the risk of having heart disease or a stroke?

There are tons of amazing trails to bike in Burnaby. Some of my favourites include the Deer Lake Parkway Urban Trail and the Central Valley Greenway. You can find more Burnaby bike routes here: I encourage you all to gear up your own bike or rent one and get out for a ride this weekend as we enjoy the lovely spring weather.

Youth 12+ Eligible for Vaccination

As of yesterday, May 20, youth 12-17 can register online or by phone and start booking their appointments to get vaccinated. Youth in this age group can also accompany an adult to an already-booked appointment and get vaccinated at the same time as their family member. Every worker in BC can take up to 3 hours paid leave from work to get vaccinated.

This means that every person 12+ in B.C. is now able to get their first dose. If you haven’t already, please make sure you are registered. You can register in just two minutes at or by phone at 1-833-838-2323. Once you have registered, you’ll receive a text or email shortly with a link to book your appointment.

To date, more than 2.5 million vaccine doses have been administered in B.C. As this number keeps increasing with every passing day, there is so much to be hopeful about. Thank you for doing your part to keep our communities safe.

Funding for Tourism

Our province is home to some of the world’s finest tourist attractions. Whether it’s the Butchart Gardens, the Capilano Suspension Bridge, or the MacMillan Space Centre, these attractions have been vital to our local economy, and have given us many cherished memories. But we know they are among the businesses hit hardest by this pandemic, and our government is committed to supporting this crucial industry.

This week, our government announced $50 million on the way to support B.C.’s major tourist attractions. The BC Major Anchor Attractions Program offers up to $1 million per attraction through one-time grants. Businesses can apply until June 7th, with the funds coming in July. We’re taking strong action to ensure these treasured attractions can continue to draw people to B.C., enrich our local experiences and keep people employed.

This funding will help these crucial businesses survive, and I look forward to the day they are able to welcome everyone back with open arms.

New Child Care Spaces

The pandemic has made it clear that having access to affordable child care is not simply good social policy, it’s vital to B.C.’s economy. I'm so proud to share that we’ve invested over $2 billion in Childcare BC, our 10-year plan to deliver universal child care to B.C. families and we are announcing new child care spaces across the province. These new child care spaces provide parents with the option to return to work, go back to school or pursue other opportunities while knowing their children are safe.

In addition, today we announced 357 new spaces coming to Burnaby and New West! This brings the total number of new child care spaces funded in Burnaby and New Westminster since 2018 to nearly 1,760.

CleanBC Plastics Action Fund

Protecting and preserving our environment is so important for the health and well-being of the planet and future generations. The CleanBC Plastics Action Fund supports B.C. businesses to create new value from used and recycled plastics! Turning plastics from old car batteries into new ones, developing artificial intelligence to sort plastics for recycling and supporting local micro-recycling facilities are among nine projects being funded under the CleanBC Plastics Action Fund.

Recognizing the rapid growth of the use of plastics in manufacturing and the need to address plastic waste, $5 million encourages innovative technologies to turn used plastics into new products, support the circular economy for plastics and increase local processing capacity for recycling and create new jobs. The funded projects will replace or recycle over 20,000 tonnes of plastic per year. Not only is it protecting the environment, but the fund has supported opportunities that demonstrate benefits for women, youth, and Indigenous people by creating employment opportunities and supporting community-based initiatives.
