Hi <<First Name>>,

Autumn is in full swing, and everyday we're treated with the beautiful colours and the crisp air. I hope you're taking some time to appreciate the gorgeous sights outside, right here in Burnaby-Deer Lake!

With summer long gone, I can't help but reflect on how fast the seasons change and how quickly time flies. One year ago, British Columbians took to the polls, and this community gave me the honour of continuing to serve as their MLA. Each day, I'm so grateful for the people I get to meet, the things I get to learn, and the progress we make together.

In the one year since, our government has worked hard every day to deliver our commitments to build a stronger BC for everyone.

The last year hasn’t been easy, and I know that people in Burnaby have been through a lot. We know the future still feels uncertain and that’s why we are listening to your concerns every day and finding solutions that work for everyone.

We have worked hard to make a real, positive difference in people’s lives, and we know there is more work to do. Looking forward, British Columbians remain our priority, and we will keep working every day to build a stronger BC for coming generations.

We have taken steps to make life more affordable and to improve the services people need. Here are some examples of the progress we have already made on our 2020 platform:

We’ve taken historic steps to keep people healthy and safe through the global pandemic:
  • 90% of eligible British Columbians are vaccinated. More than 2.7 million people received the BC Recovery Benefit. We’ve invested in testing, contact tracing and personal protective equipment.
We’re providing better care for people in their communities:
  • Across BC, there are 24 new Urgent Primary Care Centres to make it easier to see a doctor, nurse or health care professional. We are building, modernizing, and expanding hospitals across the province. We are reducing wait times for surgery and MRIs, and accelerating our response to the overdose crisis.
We’re making life more affordable:
  • We made transit free for kids 12 and under, implemented the biggest ICBC rate reduction in history and are building thousands of affordable homes. We also made the largest-ever increase to income assistance and the senior’s supplement.
We’re fighting the climate crisis and creating good jobs in a clean energy future:
  • We are making it easier and more affordable to switch from fossil fuels to clean electricity. We are creating 85,000+ jobs with record infrastructure investments and setting targets to keep the government accountable under CleanBC, the most ambitious climate plan in North America.
We’re moving forward on the path of reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples:
  • We are developing the DRIPA action plan, and have formed long-term agreements that support self-determination and shared prosperity including partnerships with the Tahltan Nation and Upper Nicola Band. We are supporting First Nations in truth-telling, healing and justice for residential school survivors, their families and communities. We supported the demolition of the former residential school and the construction of a new community centre in Lower Post. We are helping preserve Indigenous cultures including the revitalization of First Nations languages.
Seamless Day Kindergarten pilot program expands

Far too many parents don’t have access to the before-and after school care they need. We’re expanding B.C.’s Seamless Day Kindergarten pilot program to 21 more communities.

This program will integrate before and after-school care into the classroom, giving busy families peace of mind, knowing their children are learning and playing in one safe place all day.
