Jumping
Hi All,
It’s great to be back at shows. Even though it’s been a challenging time with getting shows back up and running it’s great to see clubs trying their best.
The season started off in late August with NDSJC holding their show at the Waikerie Horse & pony club grounds, Well done to the committee carting their equipment there and leaving it for the following show.
Waikerie Horse & Pony club spring show was three weeks later held by the Waikerie Horse, it was great to see two clubs working together.
Mallala Show Jumping club held their show the on the 19/20th September with a great turn out competitor’s coming from Mt Gambier.
Adelaide Hills Showjumping club are a newly formed club holding their first show on the 10/11th October at Wirrina Cove Holiday Park. A venue that hasn’t seen jumping in over 20yrs.

The Eyre Peninsula Showjumping club have been holding events nearly weekly with just recently holding their Championship show at Tumby Bay, was great to see competitors travel from Adelaide to support this great show.
Mount Gambier Showjumping club have also been running shows fortnightly, taking the incentive to replace the Ag shows that were cancelled, running a three day show on the weekend that is normally the Mt Gambier Ag show.
The ESA State Jumping Championships will have been run by the time you read this. Having been held at the Wirrina Cove Holiday Park. Report will be in the next newsletter.
Strathalbyn have been running regular freshman days.
We were sorry to hear of the passing of John Wilsher, who was part of the vision of running jumping in the centre of the Mt Gambier velodrome, which was the birth of the MGSJC and the Easter Showjumping festival. Volunteering many hours in building two sets of jumping equipment, judges’ boxes and course building at freshman days and shows. John was part of the team in holding the 2004 Australian Jumping Championships at Mt Gambier. John had an incredible passion for the sport and course building. Condolences to Rose and family.

Congratulations to Conor Reed and Troy Woollard on being named on the 2019 Equestrian Australia National Young Rider Squad. Which was announced by EA on the 16th September. Conor placed second and Troy placed 15th in the 2019 National Young Rider Series.
Normally this time of year we would be getting ready for the Australian Jumping Championships and/or the Adelaide three-day event, unfortunately due to Covid these events were cancelled, hopefully next year will be back to normal.
Thank you to all the competitors that have been supporting the jumping events in SA.

Eventing
Despite the uncertainties and difficulties due to Covid-19, which made running an Event successfully an even greater challenge than usual, most OC's have run Events - or at least a modified program - which has allowed our riders to get out and about and start competing. At least we are in way better shape that our Victorian neighbours where all events ceased with lockdown!
Canoe Tree Horse Trials was the first competition to start after Covid stoppages and they were inundated with entries running HT classes at 65, 80 and EVA95 plus Combined Training for higher Star level classes and also catered for the show jumpers, with Show Jumping offered from 95cm to 1m30. Something for everyone on day 1 at Strathalbyn, August 15th ! While a pleasant time was had by all involved at the cross country Sunday on Jill Bow's property near The Canoe Tree, Currency Creek.
September kicked off with a Derby Day on the 6th - combining cross country fences at Monarto with interspersed show jumps – attracting numerous competitors and running as a successful fund raiser for the new HT course being built at Wirrina Cove scheduled for the first weekend of November.
In place of Mt Gambier Horse Trials, September 19 & 20, a Regional Clinic was held on the Pony Club grounds using their cross country and another Regional Clinic was being held this weekend at Renmark. Further such clinics are scheduled for next year.
A hugely successful Horse Trials Event was held at Monarto on 26 & 27 September where the weather gods were kind and solid rain all week before drying sunshine on weekend made the going at Monarto the best it has been in late Sept. Absolutely all classes and grades were catered for from 50cms to 2.5* including combined training classes and record numbers participated. Well done to Monarto Horse Trials !

Hills & Barossa HT, without a home ground cross country course, ran a number of fund raising efforts to ensure they run a HT Event next year with their portables purchased from Goulburn. H & B ran a very big Combined Training and Show Jumping day at Strathalbyn, with multiple entries and good organisation all round, as the sun shone all day on Saturday 3rd October.
Reynella HT were not so lucky, with seriously bad weather forecast for Sunday 4th, they cancelled their XC Training day to re group and run a XC Time Trial on Sunday 18th October over 65, 80 and 95cm flagged & dressed tracks. The afternoon allowed more training XC with some 3* options available to star riders.
In the meantime with few HT Events on offer, our SA Eventers have turned to Show Jumping for their competition adrenaline rush. Sarah Clark and LV Balou Jeans surprised the jumpers with a win at 1m20 and second at 1m30 at the new Adelaide Hills SJC event at Wirrina October 10th while Wendy Schaeffer & Gitta Bella “won” the Silver 1m25 in a “Steven Bradley style” where the only rider clear, fell off in the jump off leaving her surprisingly in the lead despite two down in the first round !

Rachelle Verma & Gisella and Emily Nettle & Cash Cab also eventers had good placings out SJ. (Rachelle & Gisella carried on down to Mt Gambier SJ for 3 placings out of 3 !)
Eventers of all shape and sizes (ponies) were out in force in the second ring, including impressive performances from young Millie Taylor, 10 year old daughter of the Wirrina Cove Holiday Park owners, Ben & Holly Taylor.

A special Thank You to Ben & Holly for re-instating Wirrina as a great Equestrian Venue. We are all trooping back to watch the eventers out in force at the State Show Jumping Championships this weekend, Oct 30 to November 1st, also at Wirrina.
