U3APP e-bulletin

Wishing all our Readers a Safe, Healthy & Happy Christmas and a Full & Rewarding New Year in 2022

This is our final e-Bulletin for the year; yet another year of Lockdowns and uncertainty; but, as the year progressed, revealing a distinct sense of hope for the future - albeit hope tempered with some restraint.

We're delighted you've enjoyed reading our weekly Bulletins across nearly two years of COVID r
estrictions and Lockdowns, and can't begin to describe how much we appreciate the wonderful words of praise and encouragement we've received over that time.

As we go to press today our plan is to revert to fortnightly e-Bulletins in the New Year, with the first due on 23 January, one week before the start of Term 1.  We look forward to reconnecting with you then.  Stay safe . . .

Message from U3APP's New President

Sheila Quairney

On behalf of the new Committee of Management team, I'd like to wish all our Members and readers a very happy Christmas.

It's been a particularly challenging year, but thanks to the dedication of our wonderful Volunteers, and the goodwill and resilience of all of you, we've emerged stronger and wiser, and can face 2022 with the hope of better times ahead.

Thank you all so much for staying connected with U3A Port Phillip and have a safe, happy and healthy holiday break.

Enrolment Week - High Fives All Round

To all those involved in Enrolment Week - from Tutors and Tutor Liaison to Course Coordination and the IT Teams to Office Volunteers - give yourselves a big furry high five - or just a regular one if you prefer.

The success of Enrolment Week is clear and shows the wisdom in spreading bookings out over a week instead of one madcap day as in previous years.

The vast majority of Members were able to log in and book into Courses without the technical issues we've experienced in the past when our server couldn't cope with the large numbers eager to book all at the same time.

And while, as expected, the most popular Courses filled up quickly, there are plenty of Courses with places still available.  It's also possible that further new Courses and Events will be added over the Holiday Break, so it's a good idea to check the Course Guide regularly.  If you click the 'Courses' button below you can view our current 2022 Course Guide - just remember to log on to the U3APP Website before attempting to book.

Missed Out on Your Chosen Course?

Members who don't get into some of our very popular Courses are understandably disappointed and, as a result, sometimes question whether our systems are fair.

First, let us assure you that no one was booked into any Course before the time that bookings opened, except for the Tutor.  A popular Course with a small Class size does just book out in less than a minute as we saw clearly throughout the week.

If 20 people are poised with fingers ready and they all hit the booking button within seconds of 9:00 am (for instance), only 12 of them will get in if 12 is the Class limit.  And it's not necessarily those with the fastest fingers - it's more like a lottery of which booking transactions go through first.

We hope that if you didn't get into a Course you've waitlisted yourself.  The Course Coordination Team works tirelessly and constantly to find ways of mounting additional Courses when there are long waitlists.  If and when they succeed, those on that Waitlist will be given priority for the new Course.

Want to Find Your Inner Astaire?

 Introduction to Ballroom Dancing

While dancing like Astaire may not be something you aspire to, our new Introduction to Ballroom Dancing Course may be more your cup of tea.  David Sharples is keen to encourage a few more men to participate in the Class and has written a plea to any and all prospective twinkle toes out there.  You can read his plea for sure or shuffle footed men by clicking the 'Red Dancer' button below and to book into this new Course click the 'Yellow Dancer' button.

Soul Collage Day - Holiday Program

Monday 17 January 2022 - 10:00am - 4:00pm

During this one-day workshop you'll learn how to make and read your self-created Soul Collage cards. You don’t need to be an artist to create in this group. Everyone becomes an artist by participating in Soul Collage making; you can reserve your place by clicking the button below

Soul Collage is a creative, inspiring and transformative collage process that is simple and satisfying to do. You handcraft your own Soul Cards with images you intuitively create – each self-created collage card representing an aspect of your personality or soul.
