2022 Course Guide and Enrolment Information
Everything We Know (So Far) About 2022 Courses
The first version of the 2022 Course Guide is here and we can now share with you an amazing 93 Courses - to date - for the coming new year. With around 60% of next year's Courses running Face-2-Face, there's bound to be a flurry of activity around Mary Kehoe Centre and all our other Venues once Classes start on 31 January.
Please be aware that there will definitely be changes in the coming weeks - additions, alterations and updates; we'll keep you all informed via our e-Bulletins.
Those of you who've logged on to the U3APP Website today will have noticed a couple of new things:
- If you submitted your Proof of Vaccination before 27 November, you'll now see your status displayed as "Vaccinated Member" - this is only for Members who have renewed their Membership and submitted Proof (not just shown at the door when attending a Class at Mary Kehoe or other Venue). Honorary Members will remain as such when they log in. We will update this regularly so if you submitted after 27 November, please be patient. If you submitted earlier and don't see this notification when you log on, please contact email@example.com
- The 2022 Course Guide, in all its glory, is now available to view on the Website. You can view it in various forms to make your search easier - click on the one below that suits you the best:
For those who haven't booked into Courses before, or for those who would like to remind themselves how to do so, we've created a couple of Practice Courses, along with a Full Course to practice Waitlisting - all clickable below. When you click on the Dummy Face-2-Face Course, you'll see a blue 'pop up' box (see picture below) which will appear each time you view or try to book a Face-2-Face Course; you'll need to click on the X in the right top corner to acknowledge and accept this, and to view the Course details.
Enrolment Booking Dates
As mentioned in last week's e-Bulletin, Enrolments for 2022 will be taken over a week from 13 December - 17 December, rather than just one day as in previous years. This means if the Course you're booking into runs on a Monday, you'll be able to book into it on Monday 13 December; if the Course runs on a Tuesday, you can book your place on Tuesday 14 December - and so on through until Friday 17 December.
The times for booking on each day will vary depending on the type of Course, as follows:
- 9:00 am - Exercise Courses (the second Course code character is "E")
- 10:00 am - Language Courses (the second Course code character is "L")
- 11:00 am - all other Courses
Paper Enrolment Forms
While we prefer Course Enrolments to be made Online, those wanting to submit a paper Enrolment Form can now download and print a copy from the U3APP Website by clicking the 'Enrolment' button below; you can also obtain an Enrolment Form from the U3APP Office at Mary Kehoe Centre. On the form, you'll find all the information you need to lodge your Enrolment Form, including details about submitting Proof of Vaccination for Face-2-Face Classes, renewing your Membership and the process of how these Enrolment Forms are handled. Paper Enrolments can be submitted from Monday 6 December through to 3:30 pm on Friday 10 December.
Questions About Enrolment?
Being able to easily enrol in new year's Courses and Events is important to most of us and we all want to get it right on the day. To ensure you are fully informed about everything to do with enrolment 2022, we've created a FAQ (frequently asked questions) document which tells you absolutely everything you need about renewing your Membership, providing Proof of Vaccination, logging in to the Website, dates and times when 2022 enrolments open, maximising your chances of getting into your chosen Course, and much, much more.
You'll find a link to these FAQs when you go to any Course Guide page on the Website - just look for the button shown below. When you click on it you'll see a list of headings and when you click on the arrows at the side of each heading, you'll be able to read all about it.
Don't Forget to
Of course you won't be able to book into any of these new Courses if you haven't renewed your U3APP Membership, and you need to renew by Sunday 12 December if you want to book for any Courses during Enrolment Week. We are not taking Membership renewals or enrolments between Monday 13 December and Friday 17 December, so to avoid disappointment we recommend you renew now.
You also won't be able to book into Face-2-Face Courses if you haven't provided your Proof of Vaccination; you'll find information about how to submit yours on the Enrolment page of the Website when you log in to renew your Membership.
Office Volunteers will be providing a Pop-Up service on the verandah at Mary Kehoe this week on the following days and times:
This Week at Mary Kehoe Centre
This is great opportunity for those who would like to bring along their Proof of Vaccination to have it recorded. You can provide Proof in person by showing your Vaccination Certificate on your phone or your paper Vaccination Certificate to the Office Volunteer who will record only your date of full Vaccination against your name.
- Monday 29 November 10:00 am - 12.30 pm
- Tuesday 30 November 10:00 am - 12.30 pm
- Wednesday 1 December 10:00 am - 12.30 pm
*** U3APP does not keep or store your Certificate - it is simply sighted to check your vaccination status.

- COVID-19 digital certificate via the Service Victoria app
- COVID-19 digital certificate saved to your smartphone
- Printed copy of COVID-19 digital certificate together with photo ID

Members will be sad to hear that a long term Member Julie Paxton died peacefully at home on 23 November.
Julie joined our U3A in 2003 and had only recently stopped being a Member due to ill health. Over several years Julie ran training courses for many Office Volunteers and was also an Office Volunteer herself and Office Roster Secretary for a brief time. Julie’s constant poor health didn’t prevent her from attending many of our Classes and making a significant contribution to U3A Port Phillip.
Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time. A Memorial Service may be arranged at a later date.
Grass Pollen Season in Victoria
Another timely reminder that Grass Pollen Season is now upon us and extends into December, with the resulting possibility of Thunderstorm Asthma - a very debilitating and dangerous condition. For full information about symptoms, treatment and how to avoid it, click on this Victorian Government Better Health where you can also view a two minute video about how Thunderstorm Asthma can affect people with Asthma and Hay Fever.
While not able to travel far, Helen Devereux's Japanese for Travellers Class met at Helen's apartment last week to enjoy green Matcha tea and green Matcha cake - and to study of course.

University of Melbourne Research Studies
Remaining Engaged through Digital Technologies
Researchers at The University of Melbourne are conducting a research study that aims to understand how digital technologies can help older adults remain socially engaged and active, especially during COVID-19 pandemic when it is hard to participate in Face-2-Face social meetings and activities.
They're looking for older adults who are aged 65+, living independently, and socially affected by the pandemic to take part in an interview. Interviews will be conducted via Zoom or by phone and will last about one hour. All participants will receive a $20 Coles voucher for the time.
The study has full ethical approval from the University of Melbourne’s Human Research Ethics Committee. If you’re interested in taking part in the study, please send an email to email@example.com or contact Wei Zhao (PhD Student) directly on 0410 318 121 - click the 'University of Melbourne' button below for further information.
If you live with dementia, or care for someone living with dementia, the HOMESIDE study, being run by the University of Melbourne, is recruiting participants for a free Telehealth trial.
You can see the study flyer by clicking the 'University of Melbourne' button below, or view a Youtube invitation that can be shared with carers via the 'Click to View' button.
You'll find more information on their website by clicking the 'Homeside' button below or you can email them at firstname.lastname@example.org
Check In at Every Venue You Visit
The Victorian Government requires all members of the community to check in at Venues you visit using the Services Victoria QR Reader app; we highly recommend all our Members are diligent in doing this during shopping trips.
There are now requirements to show proof of vaccination for those wanting to visit venues such as restaurants, as well as for U3APP Face-2-Face Classes, so it's important to be able to access your COVID-19 Digital Certificate. The button below will take you to the Victorian Government's "How to get your COVID-19 Digital Certificate" Web Page.
Current COVID-19 Restrictions
Victoria's Vaccination rate has now reached 90% fully vaccinated of those aged 12+, and while we're enjoying the lifting of restrictions, COVID-19 daily cases, and very sadly, deaths related to COVID-19, remain stubbornly high.
All updates on COVID-19 restrictions can be found on the Government's website and you can keep up to date with them by clicking on this 'COVID-19' button. Alternately you can view Victoria's Roadmap by clicking the 'Victoria Map' button.
The Australian Government Department of Health provides regular updates on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.
Booster Vaccines are now available for those who've had their second dose six months ago. The Booster Vaccine doesn't have to be the same type you were originally vaccinated with, so you have a choice as to which you go with.
Click on this 'Vaccine' button for more information on the Department of Health Website. We suggest discussing any unanswered queries on this Website with your doctor.
