Welcome to another weekly U3APP e-Bulletin, chock full of news and interesting stories.  So, grab that cuppa or glass of goodness and relax as you read on:-

As we come to the pointy end of this most strange and unusual U3APP year, we'll have lots of important information coming through in the coming weeks about Courses and Events for 2021, including just how we envisage this new 'Covid-Normal' year will run and what it will mean for our Members.

We urge you all to take special notice of next week's e-Bulletin, especially if you ONLY want to attend Face-to-Face Classes in 2021, as there will be important information provided.

The 22 November e-Bulletin will contain everything you need to know about booking into 2021 Courses, as well as a brand new Course Guide for you to peruse before Bookings open on Monday 7 December.

Below is an excerpt from our new 'Enrolment Information for 2021' document.  We recommend you take note of this so you'll get an idea of just what 2021 will look like (at this stage) More information will be provided in next week's e-Bulletin, and the full document will be made available on our Website, in the pdf Course Guide and on paper Enrolment Forms:-

"Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be no Face-to-Face classes at Mary Kehoe Centre and other Centres until further notice.  Meanwhile Courses will be held via ONLINE (Zoom) or EMAIL or OUTDOORS.

When possible, Courses will transition to either

Artists Showcase

Announcing the U3APP Art Exhibition, Reflections of Summer

Red River Gums by Linda Condon
U3APP is providing an avenue for illustrating the creative talents of its Members with the launch of a U3APP Art Exhibition, Reflections of Summer.

You are invited to submit photographs of your art works from now until 31 March 2021.  The artwork should be painting on any medium and will be displayed on the U3APP website.  Initially the Exhibition will be online with photographs of the artwork posted on the U3APP website.  Find out more about the Exhibition and how to make a submission by clicking on this 'Art Palette' button.

U3APP Membership Data

As at the end of the 2020 financial year, we have 778 Members, including 16 life Members and 15 Honorary Members (Tutors who are not financial Members), and this number continues to grow.

The graph below (beautifully created by Diane Boyle, CoM & Covid Working Group) shows growth since U3APP started in 2004.  The numbers on the left hand side show the rise of Member numbers over the past 16 years, while the numbers on the right hand side reflect the number of Courses U3APP has run each year to cater for the needs of our Members.

We're sure you'll all agree  that the significant growth of both Members and Courses over the years has been a welcome boon to all who take part in U3APP offerings, and we take this opportunity, once again, to extend our thanks to all our Volunteers who have worked tirelessly to make this happen.

This Summer We're Planning Another

Yes, that's right, we're not leaving you in the lurch during the Summer Break; we're planning another two week Holiday Program which will run from Monday 18 - Friday 29 January, and even if you're away enjoying our newfound Covid-19 freedoms, you'll still be able to join in the fun via Zoom.

But We Need YOU to Make it Happen

Whether you're already one of our amazing Tutors, or a Member with a passionate interest you'd like to share with others, why not consider running a one-off Holiday Activity?  You're sure to enjoy the experience, and we invite you to submit your proposal by Friday 4 December.

You can download a Holiday Proposal Form by clicking the 'School Holiday Programs' button below, or go to the U3APP Website where you'll find this Form under the "Volunteering" dropbox in the main menu.  Once complete, email your Holiday Proposal Form to our Course Coordination Team by Friday 4 December at coursecoord@u3app.org.au.
For further information or to discuss, contact Ann Gibson or Jim Pribble at that same email address.

Spotlight On! The Covid-19 Working Group

In another of our Who's Who series of U3APP Volunteers, today we're proud to present The Covid-19 Working Group - three U3APP Members who, since March this year, have added to their already busy schedule, working out ways of navigating us safely through the Covid-19 blight of 2020, while still allowing our Members to stay connected with their Courses and with each other.

We know how grateful you are to have been able to continue learning, exercising, discovering, creating, discussing and connecting during this difficult time; well now you can read about a few of the Volunteers behind this massive effort including how they continue to manage this mammoth task - just click on this 'Working Group Trio' button:-

U3APP Health and Safety Officer

The health and wellbeing of our Members is of paramount importance to the U3APP Committee of Management (CoM).  At its October meeting the CoM endorsed the creation of a new voluntary position, the U3APP Health & Safety Officer.  The primary responsibilities of the Officer are the implementation of the U3APP Health & Safety (Serious Injury & Incident) Policy and Procedures, and the U3APP Covid-19 Conditions of Entry.

The Covid-19 Working Group is delighted to announce that the Committee of Management has now endorsed Alex Mifsud for this position, and he has accepted.  Alex will be known to many of you as an Office Volunteer with excellent communication skills.

21 November 2:30 - 3:30

The events of the past twelve days make our final Webinar for the year a must watch one for anyone interested in U.S. politics, as John Pilbrow discusses the result of this historic election.  John is a PhD candidate at Monash University, and has previously been a teaching associate at Monash and Melbourne Universities.  John's doctoral research focuses upon electoral trends at U.S. Presidential elections, whilst his other research interests centre on the political and electoral history of the U.S.

Every AGE Counts

Tuesday 24 November 10:30am - 11:30am

In the COVID-19 pandemic some deep-seated ageist attitudes towards older people have been exposed.  We’ve seen the familiar framing of older people as a burden and questions emerge about the value of older lives.  Now is our historic chance to challenge and dismantle ageism and the assumptions on which it is based.

To register for this free Webinar to hear Ashton Applewhite and Jane Caro in conversation on building a world without ageism, click on the 'Every AGE Counts' button below.
