                            Happy New Year!

Happy New Year and welcome to 2017! I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays with family & friends and made lots of great memories. Our club had some fun times of their own at the annual Christmas Tea in the middle of December. Now is the long cold stretch where we all clinch tight every time we walk out into the bitter cold and have visions of Spring far off in our imagination. Speaking of Spring, that is when LWC will be hosting the first annual "Women Honoring Women" event. In case you haven't heard about it, this inspiring event will take place at Vosh Georgetown in Lakewood on May 4th, beginning at 6pm. We are currently seeking applications for 2 exceptional women whom we will be honoring that evening. Along with being a powerful evening of coming together with so many phenomenal women in our community, Laura Ponticello, an award-winning author, will be our guest speaker. She will also be at Lakewood Public Library's Main Branch the evening before for a signing of her latest book. Follow this link for more information about this one-of-a-kind community event.
For our current members this means all hands on deck in regards to securing sponsorships and spreading the word everywhere so we can have as many great applicants as possible. Look for an email from me outlining exactly what we all need to be doing from now until then.

Warm up your winter with a fabulous wine tasting at a wine shop owned by former LWC member, Ellen Todia. Cost is $10/person and includes 6 wines, tastings notes, and light appetizers. Ellen assured me that we can buy individual glasses of wine after we finish the tasting wines :)
As always, our social events are open to spouses, significant others, friends, and prospective members. Please RSVP via the e-vite for the total number of guests!
Hope to see you all on January 27!

Superbowl Squares - A Super Easy Fundraiser for LWC's Scholarship Fund!

How easy you say? Why just ask Rocky Houseboat, my cat! He entered last year and won!
For over 20 years, Lakewood Women's Club has provided scholarships to Lakewood women graduating from high school, and pursuing a college-level education. We are hosting a Super Bowl Squares fundraiser to raise money for the Scholarship Fund. The Super Bowl is in Houston this year on Sunday, February 5, 2017.

What is a Super Bowl Squares pool?
This pool is a basic 100 square grid. The board is a 10x10 grid of boxes where each row and column are randomly assigned a number from 0 to 9. In Super Bowl Squares, each square of the grid can be claimed by a pool member for $5 per square. At the end of each quarter of the game, and at the end of the game, the last digit of both teams' score is compared to the grid to determine a winner. The grid numbers will be randomly assigned on Saturday, February 6, 2017, after 6:30pm, and the board will be emailed out to those who have provided their email addresses.

Our plan is to keep 50% of the entry fees for the Scholarship Fund.
Here is the math for each 100 square grid/pool:
Per Square Cost: $5; Total Pool Income: $500
Payout: Quarter 1 $50; Quarter 2 $50; Quarter 3 $50; Quarter 4 $50; Final Score $50
Total Payout: $250; Scholarship Fund Donation per Grid: $250
You can invest as little as $5 for a potential to win $50 or more.
How can you help?
Solicit friends, co-workers, gambling addicts, sports enthusiasts, and your pets (mine won!) - they all love squares! Collect the participant's name/email address, and money. Please submit all collected money to LWC in one of the methods below...
Payment Options:
1) Hand Deliver Cash or Check to LWC member. Please provide contact information for each buyer (name/email address).
2) Mail Check payable to "Lakewood Women's Club" to...
Lakewood Women's Club
Attn: Scholarship
PO Box 771387
Lakewood OH 44107
* All moneys must be received by LWC by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2017.
What if I win?
We will contact winners via email, and then mail out checks to each winner with the amount of their winnings.
What happens if an "Unpaid" square wins?
All "unpaid" squares that are remaining on a board/grid at the time the grid numbers are generated will be labeled "unpaid". If an "unpaid" square wins, the money will roll over to the next quarter's winnings. Should the final score be an "unpaid" square, LWC will retain the winnings for the scholarship fund.
Thank you and good luck. Please forward any questions to Margaret Wetzler (, 216.990.4741.
