Superbowl Squares - A Super Easy Fundraiser!

How easy you say? Why just ask Rocky Houseboat, my cat! He entered last year and won!
For over 20 years, Lakewood Women's Club has provided scholarships to Lakewood women graduating from high school, and pursuing a college-level education. We are hosting a Super Bowl Squares fundraiser to raise money for the Scholarship Fund. The Super Bowl is in Houston this year on Sunday, February 5, 2017.

What is a Super Bowl Squares pool?
This pool is a basic 100 square grid. The board is a 10x10 grid of boxes where each row and column are randomly assigned a number from 0 to 9. In Super Bowl Squares, each square of the grid can be claimed by a pool member for $5 per square. At the end of each quarter of the game, and at the end of the game, the last digit of both teams' score is compared to the grid to determine a winner. The grid numbers will be randomly assigned on Saturday, February 4, 2017, after 6:30pm, and the board will be emailed out to those who have provided their email addresses.

Our plan is to keep 50% of the entry fees for the Scholarship Fund.
Here is the math for each 100 square grid/pool (if the board sells out; if not, it's a percentage of total amount collected):
Per Square Cost: $5; Total Pool Income: $500
Payout: Quarter 1 $50; Quarter 2 $50; Quarter 3 $50; Quarter 4 $50; Final Score $50
Total Payout: $250; Scholarship Fund Donation per Grid: $250
You can invest as little as $5 for a potential to win $50 or more.

How can you help?
Solicit friends, co-workers, gambling addicts, sports enthusiasts, and your pets (mine won!) - they all love squares! Collect the participant's name/email address, and money. Please submit all collected money to LWC in one of the methods below...

Payment Options:
1) Hand Deliver Cash or Check to LWC member. Please provide contact information for each buyer (name/email address).
2) Mail Check payable to "Lakewood Women's Club" to...
Lakewood Women's Club
Attn: Scholarship
PO Box 771387
Lakewood OH 44107
* All moneys must be received by LWC by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017.

What if I win?
We will contact winners via email, and then mail out checks to each winner with the amount of their winnings.

What happens if an "Unpaid" square wins?
All "unpaid" squares that are remaining on a board/grid at the time the grid numbers are generated will be labeled "unpaid". If an "unpaid" square wins, the money will roll over to the next quarter's winnings. Should the final score be an "unpaid" square, LWC will retain the winnings for the scholarship fund.

Thank you and good luck. Please forward any questions to Margaret Wetzler, wetz1729@aol.com, or 216.990.4741.

Update and Details on Women Honoring Women
The working group behind our spring fundraiser have been working hard to steer the programming of Women Honoring Women, which will take place on May 4, at Georgetown Vosh.
The group has received nominations and will now begin the challenging task of identifying an Emerging Leader and a Distinguished Leader from the qualified candidates. Work has begun to create an identifiable look to support advertising efforts.
Members are asked to continue to work on securing sponsors for the event. A program will also be created for the evening's events, and program ads will be sold at $100/full page and $50/half page. Please look for additional information regarding these new opportunities through e-mail.

Scholarship Committee is Looking for Volunteers
It’s that time of year when we need four or five members to volunteer to serve on the Scholarship Committee. LWC has been awarding college scholarships to deserving young women in Lakewood for over 20 years. Applications have been sent to local high schools and completed applications are due at the end of March.
Committee members will be responsible for reviewing all applications and identifying their top candidate(s). As a group, we will decide on a scholarship winner. Please contact Kathy Rocco if you are interested in serving on this committee.
From Your By-Laws Chair…
This is the time of year when LWC is required, by its Standing Rules, to inform membership about the nominating process. According to our By-Laws:

Article VI - Nominating and Elections, Section 2, Eligibility to Serve on
Nominating Committee
: In order to be considered for service on the Nominating Committee, a member musthave at least one (1) year’s experience in the Club and hold the best interests of the Club’s future as her highest priority. A member of the Nominating Committee may not be considered for the office of President.

A nominating committee needs to be formed with a minimum of four members. Please consider stepping into this role.

Thank you for your thoughtful attention to the governance of our organization!

Members enjoyed a great social at West Shore Wine Club, hosted by former JWCL member, Ellen Todia. We partnered with the members of Rocky River Women's Club, and had fun meeting some of the ladies, and their husbands, from our neighboring club.
