President's Message

"Our animal friends teach us more than we could have expected and love us more than we could have hoped - that's why we miss them more than we could have imagined" -Unknown author

Friends, this is a sad time for us, a member's cat has crossed the rainbow bridge. While losing a beloved pet is never easy (and in fact, it can seem we love them even more than people at times!) it can open the door for healing, friendship, and deep connections. I am forever grateful to have the Lakewood Women's Club, not only for the amazing networking and friendship opportunities but also for support and healing during these inevitably difficult times.

Margaret, we love you and are all here for you. In loving memory of Rocky Houseboat.

Guest Column

The campaign to pass Issue 28 for Lakewood's schools welcomes the support of the Lakewood Women's Club. Issue 28 seeks to continue the academic excellence and strong financial management for which Lakewood City Schools are known. This track record of fiscal responsibility means that it has been nearly seven years since we've had a levy on the ballot, and the increase would be less than two dollars a month per $100,000 of home value.

Most importantly, the levy will help Lakewood City Schools recruit and retain quality teachers, expand STEM programs and technology tools, maintain our buildings and facilities, and support mental health and other health programs that keep our students strong. As the Lakewood Women's Club has demonstrated through its decades of involvement in and service to the community, Lakewood is at its best when our schools, business community, and community organizations work together for the common good.

If you would like to learn more about the campaign for Issue 28, visit lakewoodschildren.org. You'll find news, information about the campaign, and opportunities to volunteer for everything from yard signs to phone banks to writing letters to the editor. We hope you'll join us in passing Issue 28 on March 17! What's good for our schools is good for Lakewood!
