How long have you lived in Lakewood
I moved to Lakewood in July 2018 - and have loved every single second of my experience!
How you came to join the LWC
I was lucky enough to participate in a leadership development program for women, called Bootcamp, hosted through the YWCA of Greater Cleveland. I saw firsthand the power of women’s community, and how we can so easily encourage and inspire one another to live more brave, forward lives. I wanted to continue my connection with women’s empowerment groups and found LWC.
Hobbies or interests, what you enjoy in your downtime?
My number one hobby is sharing good conversation with good friends. Aside from that, I spend my free time traveling, going to yoga classes, journaling, and catching up on fun TV shows. Fun fact, I just finished watching Game of Thrones...just in time for season 8.
A little about your family
I come from a family of 5. My parents are happily married after 28 years, and share a passion for entrepreneurial pursuits. My sister is 10 months younger than me, and lives in LA pursuing a film/tv production career. My brother is soon-to-be 20 years old, and is a sophomore at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. I’ve been thinking about family values a lot recently, and those that unite my family are: feeling empathy for all humans, working hard, practicing generosity, and believing in good karma.
Anything else you'd like to add to help people get to know you?
I keep telling people I am on a spiritual journey. Meaning, I am finally beginning to understand some of the lessons taught by our greatest spiritual teachers. If anyone has any reading or podcast suggestions, please pass them on!

February General Member Meeting

Please join us Tuesday, February 12, 2019 for our General Member Meeting to be held at the Beck Center for the Arts, 17801 Detroit Rd., in room 203 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Stop  by the front desk if you're not sure where the room is.

It will be important for as many members as possible to attend as we will be forming our nomination committee for next year's officers and we will be solidifying our volunteer positions for the upcoming spring fundraiser, Women Honoring Women. See you there!

Scholarship Volunteers Needed

It’s that time of year when we need four or five members to volunteer to serve on the Scholarship Committee. LWC has been awarding college scholarships to deserving young women in Lakewood for over 20 years. Applications have been sent to local high schools and completed applications are due at the end of March.

Committee members will be responsible for reviewing all applications and identifying their top candidate(s). As a group, we will decide on a scholarship winner. Please contact Kathy Rocco at lakewoodjuniors@gmail.com, if you are interested in serving on this committee.

Grant Applications

LWC will be reviewing applications for the club's next grant recipient. For the last two years we have been supporting GiGi's Playhouse as our grant recipient. Grant applications have been sent out to the Lakewood Nonprofits. Applications are due by the first of March. Once I have received all of the applications, they will be sent them to members along with a scoring sheet. Our intention is to have our decision made by the beginning of April. Look for further details in your email.

Superbowl Squares Fundraiser

Thanks to everyone who participated in our fundraiser! I know it made the game a whole lot more enjoyable for Mary and Megan. These ladies were the winners of the squares – Mary winning the first and second quarters, and Megan winning the third and fourth quarters. And LWC was a winner too, adding much needed funds to the operating budget.
