In today's newsletter: Winter is here; we're heading to Finders Keepers & packaging update.

WINTER IS HERE

Winter has arrived with -5 degrees this morning. The header photo was taken last year - this year there's no green left & there was actually no frost even though it was well below freezing. Why? Because there's no moisture in the ground or the air - it's too dry for frost to form.

As we head into the dry winter months we all find that we need more moisturising to keep our skin looking it's best. We don't have a traditional moisturiser in our range (yet! - watch this space) - but we do have our Shea Butter Moisture Balm, which is one of our most popular products here at Washpool. Unlike most moisturisers or body butters this product contains no water. A little goes a long way!

Shea Butter Moisture Balm can be used for sore lips, cracked and dry hands, heels or anywhere else that needs intense moisture or protection from the elements.

This balm is also ideal for protecting the sensitive skin of babies and young children. Soft enough to spread on faces exposed to cool winter air and dry, windy conditions. Soothing to dry, chapped skin.

Reviews of our Shea Butter Moisture Balm:

For deep moisturisation

26 February 2019
I use this moisturiser for really dry areas eg knees, elbows, rough dry hands and cuticles etc. I also use it in winter as it provides deep moisture and keeps my skin soft. It is more 'work' to apply but worth it. I'm a huge fan of natural ingredients in beauty products and this one is a staple in my cabinet.

Different

21 January 2019
This is the first time I have used this, it is not as creamy as the moisturisers I’ve used before and it takes a few goes to get enough out of the pot, but it gives a good coverage and is very soothing.

Great product

1 August 2018
This moisturiser is beautiful. I prefer to use it at night time because it is such a strong moisturiser that it works best after a day in sun/wind etc. Nice to put something on your skin without a long list of chemical ingredients.

Just Beautiful

16 February 2018
Applying this product is different and maybe a little more difficult than traditional moisturisers but it is well worth the effort! It leaves my skin feeling soft, supple and absolutely glowing for a long time. Knowing it is not full of thickeners and preservatives just makes it even better. Will definitely be re-ordering.

BATCH NUMBERS

We've started adding batch numbers to our products. The reasons behind this are simple - to allow us to rotate our products and also to be able to identify products should something go awry.

You'll see batch numbers in date form on our soap boxes. These have a different purpose to most "best before" dates as soap actually is better the older it is. So, if you have a choice between a soap made in April or a soap made in February - choose the older one. It'll last longer (newer soap isn't as hard, which is why we age it in our workshop before putting them out for sale)

PACKAGING TRANSITIONS

We're always looking for improvements regarding the sustainability and environmental aspects of our packaging - for both products and delivery.

We see many green brands advertising that they are completely plastic-free. What they usually don't tell you is that they often just dump all the plastic that they receive from their suppliers into the bin, so that it looks like your order was plastic-free, but in reality, it may be a different story.

We consider ourselves to be in transition. We are always on the lookout for better options, and we take small steps when we can - where it makes sense for the product and financial sense.

If you receive a parcel from us you may find that there's bubble wrap or other fillers - we reuse these from parcels we receive from our suppliers. We don't buy any of those kinds of fillers new.

We are still required to use the plastic satchels when using Australia Post, but as we've mentioned in previous newsletters, they promise they will allow us to BYO alternative satchels later this year.

We use recycled paper and cardboard for packaging when we can (like our soap boxes are 100% recycled). We use glass and plastics that are easily recycled. We'd love to use recycled plastics in our packaging, and our suppliers have made steps in that direction - we'll transition as soon as we can.

At Washpool

If you've visited the store or called or made an online order in the past year it's likely that you've had contact with Emily.

Emily is Melissa's daughter and has been working with us full-time since she finished year 12. She has excellent product knowledge & is super-helpful to all of our customers.

Emily has just signed up for a Cosmetic Chemistry course to increase her knowledge of the ingredients and choices we make in our products.

Weather update - sadly, still no rain.

The Washpool Difference

Washpool is a small rural soaperie in Ballandean, Queensland. We believe in being small enough to listen and being big enough to deliver. We believe in hand made and we take pleasure in providing meaningful employment to people living in our rural community.

We take a minimalist approach to handcrafting our soap bars. Wholesome ingredients, purposefully selected. We believe that health comes first and beauty follows. Our
clients value authenticity, simplicity and purity.

Wherever possible, we choose to source our ingredients locally, often direct from the growers.  When we purchase ingredients from further afield we place great emphasis on using ethical, organic, fair trade and sustainably produced raw ingredients. Our packaging is biodegradable, recycled and recyclable where possible.

Our products include cold pressed edible oils,
butters and milks, extracts, infusions, activated and whole botanicals along with clays, honey, fruit and vegetables. Basically, ingredients
you can recognise, most of which are edible.

Review & win!

Every month one reviewer will be chosen randomly & awarded a $20 credit on their Washpool account
