Home Forward Acquires The Alexis

One of the many ways that Home Forward is working to address our community's housing crisis is by aiming to add 500 units of affordable housing to our portfolio by 2020. We're focusing our efforts on the places our community most needs us, like East Multnomah County. We're pleased to announce that the Home Forward Board of Commissioners voted on March 19, 2019 to move us closer to that goal by purchasing The Alexis, a 40-unit property at 150th and SE Stark in Portland, OR.

Rents at The Alexis will be affordable to folks making 80% or less of the area median income. The property, completed in 2018, will be managed by Home Forward's in-house property management team. It's close to the MAX line and frequent bus service on Stark St, and it has a lot of family-sized units, making it a great fit for the needs of East County residents.

The acquisition of The Alexis is a step toward making safe, decent, and affordable housing available to everyone in Multnomah County.

Welcome, new Directors!

Please help us congratulate Tonya Evans and Taylor Smiley Wolfe on their new roles!

Tonya Evans started in her new role as Director of Asset Management on March 1. Tonya has been with Home Forward for 5.5 years, starting as a Regional Property Manager before becoming Assistant Director of Property Management 2 years ago.

Tonya will oversee a complex portfolio of over 6500 units of affordable, special needs, and public housing. Her team manages all of the operational, financial, physical, policy, and regulatory aspects of the portfolio. She is responsible for the overall health of Home Forward's real estate portfolio, ensuring that our community's housing assets are available to those who need them for decades to come.

Tonya says: "I very much look forward to being part of the Asset Management team to collaborate and contribute in ways that support not only my new team but also those around us. I’ve had the pleasure of working with our Asset Managers and am continually impressed by their talent, wit, and drive for results; they are an impressive group of individuals!  I’m also looking forward to reconnecting with our external partners, who play a part in creating and maintaining affordable housing units in Oregon."

Please join in congratulating Tonya on her new role!

Taylor Smiley Wolfe will join Home Forward in August as the new Director of Policy and Planning. She'll work with Home Forward staff to figure out how the resources we're responsible for can have the most impact in the community, and she'll represent us at policy-setting tables across jurisdictions. In short, she'll work closely with our staff and partners to help more people get and stay housed.

Taylor says: "I am thrilled to join such a passionate team of individuals who work tirelessly to provide affordable housing to people who live in Multnomah County. Home Forward plays a critical role in providing not only shelter, but the opportunity for people to stay in the community that they helped to build as it becomes increasingly unaffordable. I look forward to contributing to Home Forward's work to ensure that no one is without shelter and everyone in Multnomah County has a home that they can afford."

Taylor comes to us from Speaker of the House Tina Kotek's office where she is currently serving as Director of Policy. She has been instrumental in helping Oregon pass historic housing legislation and we are excited she is joining the Home Forward team.
