National Village and Community Halls Network

This is the first Bulletin from the National Village and Community Halls Network.  ACRE is pleased to be able to support this opportunity for members to share in the development of policy and legislation for village halls and similar rural community buildings.

Please send us any thoughts and comments and we will share them with the other village halls and interested organisations that have signed up.  For now please use this email address.

We would like to thank the National Village Halls Forum Executive Committee for all their hard work and for continuing to work with us to develop the National Village and Community Halls Network.
The National Village and Community Halls Network has the support of the ACRE Network.  It's Terms of Reference can be found here.

ACRE and the Village and Community Halls Network will not provide advice, support and information for individual halls. This is provided by the local ACRE Network members.

More information about the work of the National Village and Community Halls Network can be found here.

Lords Select Committee

Your views are needed so they can be included in a response that ACRE will submit on behalf of the National Village & Community Halls Network.

The Select Committee for Charities has been set up to consider issues related to sustaining the  charity sector, and the challenges of charity governance, and is now calling for written submissions from interested parties.

The focus of the Committee's inquiry will include:

  • the main pressures currently faced by charities, and the impact these pressures have
  • the skills required to lead and manage a charity
  • the role trustees should play in the performance and effectiveness of a charity
  • the role of national and local Government with the charitable sector
  • the role of the Charity Commission
  • charities' accountability to their beneficiaries, their donors, and the general public
  • the effective delivery of services
  • the current challenges to the financial sustainability of charities
  • innovation, particularly in the digital arena.

Written evidence must be received by 5 September 2016. More information can be found here

Please let us know what you think as soon as possible!

National Village and Community Halls Network's 4 Priorities

  • How funding might best be sought for capital improvements.
  • The delivery of long-term advice and support for volunteers managing buildings.
  • The disproportionate charge for music copyright licenses where music is rarely played.

Have your say!
