Navigating the
Social Scene at Columbia

To say that your out-of-the-classroom experiences will be just as important as your in-the-classroom ones is no groundbreaking statement. Still, we think it’s important to remind you to make time for friends and activities while you’re here in NYC, which is why this week’s issue of Required Reading is all about navigating the college social scene.

Your friends will likely make up the most of your experience with CU’s social scene. Learn how to find them before, during and after NSOP and read a bit about what you might do together on an average weekend: explore Columbia’s party scene, partake in one of our campus traditions, or hop around the city.

Second to friends are clubs. Here’s some advice on researching specific groups before evening arriving on campus, and some words of advice on deciding between and managing all the groups you chose to join. Additionally, make sure you take a look at some of our club recommendations based on high school experiences and read through our extracurricular FAQ before sending us any additional questions here.
