Outdoor Vancouver Newsletter. Edition #1

Feb 19, 2013

First Ever OV Newsletter!

First of all, thank you for subscribing to the newsletter. Some of you may have subscribed a long time ago and have been patiently waiting (or forgot you ever signed up!).

Now that the list has grown to over 100 subscribers I'm going to start mailing out monthly newsletters. You'll be able to keep up with all the exciting outdoor news and events taking place in and around Vancouver.  The newsletter will provide new content, articles, links, and maybe some special offers that aren't on the website. I'd also like your feedback. What would you like to see in these emails? If you have any ideas on how I can make these emails more entertaining or informative, please let me know! Reply to this email, or ping me at info@outdoorvancouver.ca.

As this is the first edition, I'm sure the newsletter will evolve and grow organically over time. Thank you for reading!

Running Vancouver

Pacer Films of Vancouver, who create original productions and videos that inspire runners, cyclist and triathletes, will soon be launching a very cool new web-series called 'Running Vancouver'.

The six-episode video series will follow three runners (with me being one of them!) as they train for and race the 2013 BMO Vancouver Marathon. "Running Vancouver isn’t just about training, but also about the personal sacrifices and motivation required to complete an endurance race". The series will play on YouTube and also on Novus Community Channel (in Vancouver) every two weeks. The first episode will be launching March 8, so be sure to check out the website to subscribe for updates.

Local Outdoors News

Here are some great articles I've come across lately:

1. Hiking the Sunshine Coast Trail, hut to hut. @The Georgia Straight
2.Why 12 per cent of all trips in Vancouver are by bike – It’s simpler than you think. @Green Energy Futures
3. Vancouver considers separated bike lane for Kitsilano. @CBC News
4. North Shore 100-mile runner breaks Hawaiian record. @North Shore Outlook
5. A new trail for 5Peaks Adventures with Amy Golumbia and Adam Campbell leading the way @Train Harder

Brand New Facebook Page

Outdoor Vancouver has a brand new Facebook page, and we're already above 30 followers after a week. The great thing about Facebook pages is they allow for a high level of interaction. Instead of just commenting on blog posts, fans of the page can upload their own photos, videos and stories. It will also allow me to share and highlight some of the great content from other local events, companies, and races. I think having the page will help create a better resource for everyone in the outdoors community around Vancouver and also help this community to connect to each other. Click here to Like the page and receive updates in your Facebook timeline.

So that's it. Pretty painless huh?

Until next month!
