Did you know? Vancouver’s Kitsilano salt water pool holds the title of Canada’s longest pool, measuring 137.5 meters (451 feet) almost the equivalent of 3 Olympic regulation size pools.

The Hiking Season is Here

Summer is just around the corner and most of the snow is leaving the local mountains, at least at lower elevations. This was made evident a few weeks ago when it was announced that the Grouse Grind was officially open for the season

So it's an exciting time for those of use that love getting out onto the local mountains and getting a little dirty. The high elevations are still under a good amount of snow, but some of the easier trails can already be tackled, and with the long hours of daylight now is the time to start getting out there. This is why we endure months and months of rain, right?!. In preparation for the hiking season, I put together a new page on the website - Hiking in Vancouver: Trail Guides and Resources. The page is a list of my personal favorite sources of information I use to discover new trails, find maps, GPS coordinates, photos, videos, etc. There is a list of online trail guides, printed guidebooks, and other helpful websites for hiking.

If you plan on doing any hiking this summer, check it out.

Tales from the Outdoors

Last month I released the first interview in a new series called 'Tales from the Outdoors". The aim of the series is to share the stories of local, inspirational athletes and outdoor enthusiasts.  The first interview was with Harvey Nelsen, who, judging by the response the article received, has inspired and touched many people. The article was very highly viewed and shared and if you haven't read Harvey's story yet, you can find the article here.

I'm currently preparing the interview with the second athlete, and will have that article out in June.
