Website Survey Results for JonTurino.com And the survey says...

I sent out a survey a week or so ago to find out what features of my website were most important, or at least of most interest, to you, my readers. Exactly 220 of you opened that email. Of that 220, 23 of you clicked through the email to look at the survey. And 13 of you took the few minutes it took to fill it out.
Thank you. I do appreciate it.

But wow! I guess I thought the newsletter, and the website, were of interest to many more people than that. I do get a lot of feedback on the value of the calendar from people, and in fact there are 95 Facebook "Likes" for it. And I know that some people subscribe to it, but I can't find that statistic any more since the website was recreated after last month's malware episode at the server farm. And the survey responses I did get clearly indicate that the Calendar is the page that counts.

I have to say, though, after putting in an entire Saturday to put this issue of the newsletter together, that I'm not really sure how much longer I should put in the effort every three weeks. Maybe it's enough just to keep the calendar up to date, repost articles to Facebook, LinkedIn and some other social media sites and just drop this effort. Along with a lot of the physical networking events that I attend. They're fun, and I like seeing you folks, but they're not bringing me in any more business than the website or this newsletter. So something has to give somewhere.

722 likes on Facebook for the Jon Turino Marketing + Connections page. Reach peaked at 52,353 last week with 507 talking. 1,134 connections on LinkedIn, the majority of whom I've actually met. 1,030 email addresses to which this newsletter is sent. Peak open rate about 24.6%, peak click-through rate about 5.6%.  The numbers aren't bad. But there's no revenue. I find it hard to believe that all my newsletter readers and all my website visitors and all my social media connections all have their marketing efforts so well under control that they don't need any help at all. Bless you all if that is the case. You are truly amazing.

If you can use some help, however, please contact me as soon as you can. I'm not cheap but I'm not horribly expensive either and I'm well worth my fees as past and current clients can attest. Can you afford not to spend $125 and an hour of your time with an Instant Strategy Session getting some ideas and strategies that could earn you thousands, or tens of thousands of dollars in new business? How about having me on your staff on an on-call basis for $100, $200 or $500 per month, depending on your needs?  That's what the Monthly Mentoring Mode is designed to provide for you. You'd be amazed at the mistakes a second set of eyes and ears could save you!  So let me hear from you and let's do some business together! And please do also let me know if you'd like to see this newsletter continued in 2013.

We'll say again what we say each issue:  Your feedback on this newsletter is very important to us.  Do we have the right topics?  The right content?  The right amount of information?  The right format?  What can we do better?  What's missing?  What don't you want?  Would paid ads or sponsored links be OK or not?  Please let us know via our website Contact page.

Thanks for reading this issue of newsletter. I continue to be truly gratified by the number of people who've made the time to tell me that they really like it and I will try to continue to provide you with interesting, useful and occasionally entertaining content in each issue. This Issue's Social Media Tips

If you want to improve your engagement on Facebook, an article by Sarah Pierce in Social Media Examiner provides five ways to do just that. She suggests:
  • Keep your updates short
  • Don't use URL shorteners
  • Post at ideal times for your fans
  • Use the right words
  • Ask questions
In this article, you’ll discover how to get more likes, comments and shares, explaining the five strategies for Facebook posts that get your fans buzzing.

Renee DeCoskey says in Business2Community that while social media is a great way to spread the word about what you’re doing, and is also a great way to attract new fans, followers, and potential customers, social media marketing comes with its own set of problems – as does anything, really. For one, you have to be careful that you aren’t over-promoting yourself, lest you just turn into the self-obsessed noise that everyone ignores. Read Renee's complete Thou Shalt Not Be A Social Beggar article here.

Also worth checking out is another article from Social Media Examiner entitled Community Building: How to Grow With the Power of People. The topic is explore through a podcast interview.

Taylor Protocols Logo
This Month's Featured Affiliate

This issue we spotlight Taylor Protocols, Inc.

Taylor Protocols is the developer of the Core Value Index, or CVI, a tool used to find out just what kind of a job an individual is suited to by nature rather than by skills or aptitudes. The Taylor Protocols™ are designed to optimize the people equation in organizations in ways never thought possible before. Most times, it is not a person’s skill, experience or attitude that prevents them from being a Top Performer in a given job. It is their innate capacity to perform certain tasks and functions the way the position requires. If a person’s motivational drivers and sense of contribution does not align with the work they are being asked to do, they will never rise to the top.

Taylor Protocols are the creators of the Top Performer Profile – the world’s first pre-employment hiring system that allows organizations to consistently hire employees with the same core values as their current top performers.

Every year companies waste millions of dollars on poor hiring decisions and employee turnover and that waste can be prevented using their products and services.

I've taken the CVI assessment myself and found it to be extremely accurate in identifying my core values. You can see my assessment if you would like at Jon's Core Value Assessment. Contact  me or Kimberlee Buckingham, their sales manager, to find out more about what Taylor Protocols can do for your organization.

Articles of Interest

It's hard to choose from the huge volume of material provided by so many contributors on the web, but we try!

There's a great article -- or rant, depending on your point of view -- by Heather entitled Your B2B site doesn’t need more freakin’ words that is well worth reading.  She's got some great advice on SEO and three great reality check hints for those who might become word instead of content obsessed.

Cynthia Boris, writing in Entreprenuer, lists 5 Things That Belong on the Front Page of Your Website.  It is so easy to forget some of these things so this article is a must read.

The article 14 WAYS TO PRESENT INFORMATION VISUALLY from Velocity Partners  in the U.K. is well worth a read as we see increasing use of infographics.  Do you have lots of information to share? Are you making an infographic? Here are 14 ways to visually organize your information, with examples and tips on when to use them.

Speaking of infographics, you'll find a great one in the article Trust and the Marketer.  It's entitled "The Sneaky Psychology of Advertising" and is well worth studying. And you can find 64 Google+ Tips on Marketing and Branding on this infographic.

If you want to know about the new Endorsements on LinkedIn, you'll find that information here.

Finally, don't forget to check Jon's Blog. New posts there include:
I am also sharing a bunch of between-newsletter articles via http://www.scoop.it/t/marketing-planning-and-strategy.

Groups of Interest

Myriad virtual groups exist on the Internet and within Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+ in particular.

The Portland Small Business Network, which started out as a Facebook group, has grown to almost 2,000 members and has been holding monthly networking events called the $5 at 5 PM Events.

PSBN Logo

This group is now expanding and in the process of reinventing itself, its events and its affiliations under the leadership of Lily Jeung, PSBN president. She is working on a new website for the group and I have created a mirror group on MeetUp so that people can RSVP for events and pre-pay their fees. Lily is also working with Renee Wilbur, founder of ReciProty, so that there is a mirror group there as well.

Membership in the group is restricted to people in the Portland metro region. The purpose of the group is to foster professional business and social relationships among the members so that business can be built and members can be helped through the interactions of our members.

Watch for lots of news to come out of the new group leadership with a new, expanded set of networking events to kick off in 2013. If you'd like to get involved in the re-invention of this group, please contact Lily.

Please contact us with suggestions for additional groups you think might be of interest to other readers.
