ReciProty and Evolution Magazine Logo   The Evolution of a Dream


    Jon, you can be part of an evolution, a revolution and an extravaganza.

I don't know how many of you know Renee Wilbur, founder of ReciProty. She's been at  many of the networking meetings posted on my website calendar and has been nothing less than spectacular at gaining members to her networking and referral platform. And now she's getting help from a national group that also recently published its first hard copy magazine issue. She's also been appointed a Managing Editor and has the task of finding business trendsetters who can be highlighted in the web and future print versions of Evolution Magazine.

Renee is now organizing three upcoming events that promise to be truly important and tremendously instrumental in expanding your networking world. Details are still being worked out, but you can find the dates and locations on my calendar already. The first event, the Business Evolution Explosion, will be on March 14th. This luncheon event is for ReciProty members only, so if you are not a member yet it's time to become one at ReciProty.com. There is no cost to become a member.

The next event, Networking with Results, will be in the afternoon on April 10th and will be open to all local businesses in the Portland metro area. It will include presentations, a limited number of exhibit tables, introductions of all participants and some real power networking. Then thirdly will be the Saturday, May 4th Networking Evolution Extravaganza featuring a presentation by Darnell Davis, publisher of Evolution Magazine, exhibits, networking and another chance to become part of this new network of professional businesspeople who are committed to helping each other become winners in this evolving world of self-sufficiency as a necessity for economic survival.

Please save these dates and plan on participating in these events. Please plan on bringing guests to these events so that they can benefit from the interactions being facilitated by ReciProty and its sponsors and supporters. It will be good not only for you and for your business but for your feelings of self esteem and community as well. You will be glad you did.

You are at a networking event and you meet someone new. You are having a nice chat and in the “moment of truth” you swap business cards!  Voilà! You have a new member in your network!

Not So… At least according to Lirone Glikman, whose site is dedicated to networking as a way of life. In a recent article he talks about the secret to turning business cards into relationships. You'll find the five steps in his step-by-step guide to be very helpful in your networking activities.

You'll also find some great information on networking at the Career & Business website, a very useful site filled with a wide variety of information on a large number of topics. In the article The Nuances of Networking the author says that networking is not going to a function where you know you’ll be uncomfortable and passing out all of your business cards. Nor is it seeing how many cards you can collect. Check out the 9 nuances in this article.

Also from Career & Business is an article entitled 7 Keys to Being a Great Networker. You'll find tips such as shaping your attitude to setting goals to asking for help. All good suggestions that will help you become a more successful networker.

Like your online social media, your face-to-face networking will only be effective if you do it consistently. Initially pick only two or three groups of your target audience to visit and concentrate on going regularly. You can find relevant groups on the Calendar and Resources pages.Have a tip to share? Social media is a hungry beast. The social networks need to be fed. They need to be thrown a diet of content that keeps readers and viewers coming back for more. This is one of the biggest challenges if you want to do social at scale.

If you have a hard time coming up with things to post on your social media sites, check you this article entitled
20 Ideas for Content that People Love to Share on Social Media by Jeff Bullas in Business2Community. You'll find suggestions ranging from creating lists to infographics to providing news and "how to" information. Jeff also talks about 4 types of content and 6 methods for making it multimedia.

Amy Kauffman, writing for iMedia Connections, provides a great set of suggestions on How to Stay Ahead of the Game in Social Media. She says to shop the world and steal from the best, thinking big, staying simple, staying fresh and not being afraid to flop. She also talks about relevancy, consistency, engagement and credibility.

If you are using Facebook ads, you'll know that there are new choices. Social Media Examiner features an article by Andrea Vahl that outlines what changed with Facebook and provides 5 tips for taking advantage of those changes in her article 5 Facebook Ad Tips to Maximize Your Facebook Campaigns. Well worth reading.

Portland ConnectPortland Connect is a Linkedin Networking Group based in Portland, Oregon metropolitan area facilitating face-to-face meetings and other social/business events.
