OFFICE OF DEVELOPMENT AND STEWARDSHIP
Important Information Regarding the 2014 CSA
Independent Foundation Established:
Beginning this year, all funds given to the CSA will be held by the independent Catholic Services Appeal Foundation. The Catholic Services Appeal Foundation of the Saint Paul and Minneapolis Area (CSAF) is an independent Minnesota nonprofit corporation that is tax exempt under the Internal Revenue Code section 501 (c)(3). Contributions will be used for the benefit of the designated ministries of the CSAF and for no other purposes. The CSA provides funds for ministries that serve families, strengthen parishes, support Catholic school students, form local Church leaders, and reach out to invite others to full life in the faith. The designated ministries will be identified specifically on the CSAF webpage which will go live soon.
Rebate Formula Change:
The change in the parish rebate formula previously slated to take effect with the 2014 CSA is not happening as planned. Instead, we will be retaining the 2013 rebate structure. This change follows a request made at the Presbyteral Council and then studied by the Regional Vicars and a committee of priests.

Local Catholics Generous in 2013 Second Collections
People at parishes throughout the archdiocese have contributed more than $125,000 to help survivors of Typhoon Haiyan, which tore through the Philippines and Vietnam last month. This emergency second collection was taken up at Masses throughout the archdiocese the weekend of after Thanksgiving. The money collected is already on its way through Catholic Relief Services (CRS) to help people still struggling without shelter and needing food, water and medical care. Donations may still be sent to CRS directly at http://crs.org/typhoon-haiyan/
or by calling 877-435-7277.
With 2013 donations still coming in, local Catholics have contributed a total of $1.8 million dollars through second collections to help those in need locally and around the world, support retired religious sisters and brothers, to help restore our community landmark, the Cathedral of Saint Paul, and other important campaigns with benefit our entire community.
Thank you for your support of second collections throughout the year.
OFFICE OF ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE
Billing and Financial Reporting Changes
As a part of our ongoing commitment to a culture of transparency, the Archdiocese is making a few changes to billing procedures effective January 1, 2014 and running through the end of FY 2015. Changes will also be made to Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis financial reporting.
For more information, please see the letter
from the Archbishop to pastors which was mailed in mid-December and emailed to parish business administrators on December 19.
Accounting Software Selection Update
Since late summer, a committee of parish business leaders and staff have been working on a recommendation for a LOGOS software replacement. The committee plans to present a software recommendation to the AFC at its January 2014 meeting. This timeline was moved back from November 2013 to accommodate further analysis of options, and to allow committee members to fully test software functionality that will meet parish business needs. Thank you to everyone who has shared input in this process.
ADVOCACY AND VICTIM ASSISTANCE
New Advocacy and Victim Assistance Brochure Available
In an effort to help those who have been harmed by abuse or other misconduct in Church ministry, a new brochure with information about Advocacy and Victim Assistance services has been mailed to all parishes. Each parish should have received 20 copies in the mail the week of December 16. The brochure is also posted online
. Please replace any old Advocacy and Victim Assistance brochures with the new ones.
Spanish language Advocacy and Victim Assistance brochures
are also available online and will be mailed to Latino Ministry parishes next week. You may also request Spanish language brochures, or additional English language brochures, by contacting Greta Sawyer at 651-291-4497.
OFFICE OF WORSHIP
Prayers of the Faithful
Please consider incorporating these Prayers of the Faithful in your liturgies as you see fit:
- We pray for healing and peace within our local Church, and for the consolation and renewal that Christ alone can give. We pray to the Lord.
- We pray for the triumph of truth and justice, and for real and lasting peace to be granted to all who have been wounded by the Church’s ministers or shepherds. We pray to the Lord.
- We pray for hope during these difficult days within our local Church. May the Infant King grant to us all the courage and steadfast commitment to seek and serve all that is Good, True and Beautiful. We pray to the Lord.
Mentioning of Auxiliary Bishops in the Eucharistic Prayer
While the local bishop is always mentioned in the Eucharistic Prayer, it is also permissible to pray for those bishops who assist him, namely, his auxiliary bishops. As the General Instruction of the Roman Missal states in paragraph 149, when there is more than one auxiliary bishop assisting within the local Church, prayers are made for them not by name, but by the general expression “… and his assistant bishops.” This would be the appropriate phrase to use within the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis whenever prayers are offered for our auxiliaries during the Eucharistic Prayer.
Information Regarding the Rite of Election
Information regarding the Rite of Election scheduled for March 9, has been sent out to all the parishes. They were sent to the contact person for the Office of Worship asking that the information be given to the staff person responsible for the RCIA in their parish. The information includes a letter regarding the Rite of Election and the registration forms. If you did not receive this information please contact Laurinda Irwin at the Office of Worship, firstname.lastname@example.org
