BioFactory - Turning Poo into Power
Bristol Link with Beira is facilitating the BioFactory project, which will provide toilet units for Beira which transform toilet waste into fertiliser and cooking gas. The engineers at BioFactory and the scientists at UWE are working hard on the UK prototype, whilst Moses Kakanu and his team at ADEL Sofala prepare for the arrival of a unit in Beira next year.
BLB Covid-19 Appeal for Facemasks
Using the money raised so far, ADEL have set up quite a production line with the community group Amai Mussanhane. The appeal remains open: to supply even more families, please donate via https://www.gofundme.com/f/bristol-beira-covid19-appeal . Despite COVID restrictions, and although there is a lot of rain at the moment, Moses has confirmed that ADEL and Beira are endeavouring to ‘carry on as normal’.
BLB Projects for 2021
We are currently working on grant applications for school links, Covid research, environmental work, and flood mitigation, amongst others. If you know of any projects or grants that might be applicable for BLB to support the development of communities in Beira, please let us know. We have not been able to hold any fundraising events or the ‘Meal for Mozambique’ in 2020, but we will try to set up a virtual meeting in 2021 for a first-hand update from Beira.
