Misinformation Gets Six Times More Clicks on Facebook
New York University researchers discovered scathing new data on the spread of misinformation on Facebook. The study found that from August 2020 to January 2021, misinformation got six times more clicks on Facebook than posts containing factual news. Misinformation accounted for the vast majority of engagement with far right posts — 68% — compared to 36% of posts coming from the far left.

Pregnant former policewoman allegedly killed by Taliban in Afghanistan
Banu Negar was beaten and eventually killed by the Taliban after the militants stormed her home in Firozkoh, west of Kabul. The Taliban denies killing Negar, who was eight months' pregnant, but multiple sources confirmed to the BBC that the group had beaten and shot her dead in front of her husband and children.

Tens of thousands protest for gay marriage in Switzerland
Tens of thousands protested in Switzerland on Saturday for the legalization of same-sex marriage in the Alpine country. The protests came ahead of a national referendum on Sept. 26 on the legalization of gay marriage, which has already been introduced in many other European countries including Germany, Austria, France and the Netherlands.

SF Program to pay high-risk offenders to abstain from gun violence.
The Dream Keeper Initiative is part of San Francisco Mayor London Breed's plan to divert $120 million from the city's law enforcement budget to projects aimed at helping the black minority. The program will pay 10 people “who are at high risk of being on either end of a shooting” $300 per month to forego the violent crime.

Hate crimes hit 12-year high in United States in 2020
Reports of hate crimes against Black Americans rose 40 percent, from 1,972 to 2,755. Attacks against Americans of Asian heritage surged 70 percent with 274 incidents in 2020 against 161 in 2019. FBI though called for hasty conclusions not to be drawn, pointing out that over time, different levels of public participation could be behind the alarming data.

Raisi says Iran ready for talks but not with Western 'pressure'
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has said that Iran was ready to hold talks with world powers to revive its 2015 nuclear agreement. Raisi said that the talks could not be held under Western pressure. France and Germany have urged Iran to return to the negotiating table after talks were disrupted due to the elections in Iran in June.

South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh shot months after wife and son were killed in unsolved case
Attorney Jim Griffin says Alex Murdaugh was shot Saturday in Hampton County. Murdaugh found the bodies of his wife Maggie and son Paul on June 7. The Murdaughs are one of South Carolina's most prominent legal families. Paul was awaiting trial on a charge of boating under the influence causing death.
