OCS College and Career Institute

The new OCS College and Career Institute (CCI) is set to open its doors in just a few short weeks. CCI will be located at 315 W. 113th street and will feature a state-of-the-art computer lab, industrial kitchen, learning center, large outdoor space and conference room.

While our entire OCS community should be excited about this new addition to our school, this is especially great news for the OCS Culinary Program. Since 2013, when the OCS Culinary Program began, OCS has rented commercial kitchen space from City Cookhouse and local restaurants in Harlem such as Park 112 to allow our students to practice what they’ve learned in class. Now with an industrial kitchen on-site at CCI the program will be able to reach its full potential by offering culinary courses to more students.

In addition to the OCS Culinary Program, CCI will be the permanent home for OCS’ Microsoft Certification Program and will soon offer transition programming for graduating seniors, as well as after-school and enrichment programming for 11th and 12th graders.

An official CCI launch event will take place Wednesday, April 20, 2016.

It's Coming!

Mark your calendars. On Wednesday, April 20, OCS will launch the long-awaited and refreshingly new school website. After months of planning and preparation, OCS will soon have a website that reflects the rich culture, diverse character and unique appeal that for more than 12 years has made OCS Harlem’s best kept secret.

The new site will be driven by beautiful photos, informative content and seamless navigation. From parents and students to staff and casual visitors, learning about OCS and all of our exciting news will be easier than ever.

The countdown begins…and we’re less than 20 days away.

Time Square Kids Run

On Sunday March 20, several OCS students joined nearly 1000 kids who participated in the New York Road Runners Times Square Kids’ Run at the United Airlines NYC Half. The race was held during the popular annual city half marathon. Students ran 1500 meters (nearly a mile) through the heart of NYC right alongside the marathon route.

Many parents came out to show their support and cheer for our students. Even though this was an outdoor event the students and their parents braved the cold weather and had a lot of fun. OCS students will compete again in an upcoming race on April 2 in Central Park.

March Community Service

This month we spotlight Ms. Kemi and her advisory team. As part of our community service partnership with New York Cares, Ms. Kemi's 10th grade advisory team was asked to share their ideas on what it means to be a leader. Students were invited to the New York Cares headquarters to take part in educational group activities that allowed them to share their ideas in a creative way. Students painted a beautiful mural of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and President Barack Obama as a way to remind us all of the importance of leadership and service. Check out the incredible mural in the image below that these students painted to inspire their fellow students.
