Volunteers: Bridges to the Community

Volunteers are Crucial to the Dismas Mission
The highlight of our day at Dismas House is dinnertime, when volunteers from the community join residents and staff around the table.  We greatly appreciate folks' contribution of the meal; yet, even more important are the relationships that are forged when former prisoners, staff and community members come together over a meal as equals.  As one Dismas resident put it, “Volunteers coming to evening meals tells me I am worth something.”

Young Friends of Hanover Friends Meeting brought dinner & handmade soup bowls!

Individuals, faith and civic groups and other organizations who volunteer at Dismas are a huge part of meeting our mission of reconciling prisoners with society and society with prisoners. Our volunteer cooks, who join us for weeknight dinners, are an essential part of this.  People of all ages and from all walks of life join us at the dinner table to share food and conversation.

Many others have also been generous with their time, from all those who stored furniture and helped us move in to the students who volunteered on the Granite United Way Day of Caring.

We also appreciate the hard work of our volunteer board and committees.  Without them, there would be no Dismas House!
Dartmouth students gave us a big hand on the United Way Day of Caring.
