 Work is Underway

at the Hartford House

Residents expected this winter.

The new Dismas House in Hartford Village is being transformed. All Seasons Construction of Springfield has completed six weeks of work as of last Friday and made terrific progress. (The Department of Corrections provided the people to conduct demolition ahead of All Seasons' work.) Rough-in of electrical and life safety wiring is largely complete; this week the insulation contractor is spray foaming the exterior walls.  A new sewer connection and water line extension were installed a week ago and final paving of the trenching along Maple Street is occurring this week.
Future work will entail installation of drywall and porch reconstruction. The ADA compliant building will be fully sprinklered and have a fire alarm system with a radio connection to the Hartford Fire Department.  Fire Marshall Mike Bedard and the state electrical inspector visit the building every Tuesday to review progress and code compliance issues.   We expect to be open this winter!

What an inspiring year it has been. We are so thankful for the compassionate and generous community we have found here in the Upper Valley.  Our deepest gratitude to all of you who have helped in so many ways!

Matthew Pisanelli runs for Hartford Dismas

Matt Pisanelli, former student of Rutland House Director Terese Black, raised over $3500 for the Hartford house when he ran in the ING New York City Marathon on November 3rd.

Matt asked his friends and colleagues to support his run by donating to Hartford Dismas, and they came through in a big way!

We thank Matt and all who donated for their generous support.

Food Drive for HDH: Nov. 25

The Upper Valley Food Co-op in White River Junction will hold a food drive to benefit Hartford Dismas House on Monday, November 25th.  You can help get our kitchen stocked by participating in this food drive! Non-perishable foods, including bulk items available at the Co-op, are needed to get our transitional home off to a good start.
A list of foods needed will be posted at the store, or email Debbie Diegoli for more information.  Non-perishable food only at this time, please.

The Co-op, recently painted solid red (with a new slate gray roof) is located in the same building as Vital Communities at
193 North Main St, White River Jct.  Look for the red apple sign!
Volunteers Needed!

Join our painting party!  We'll be painting the interior of Hartford Dismas House on December 12 & 13.  Additional dates and tasks will also be available.

Looking ahead, we're recruiting individuals, couples. families and groups as volunteer cooks.  We ask folks to commit to preparing a meal on a weeknight once a month (e.g. on the 2nd Wednesday each month).  This can be a great project for service clubs, faith groups, even workplaces, whose members would like to take turns so that no individual has to cook every month.

If you'd like to help with either of these volunteer jobs, contact
Rita Whalen McCaffrey for details
