Old Dogs + Young Dogs

Old Dogs + Young Dogs

Recipe for disaster? Not necessarily with some precautions.

Last month’s newsletter was about old dogs aging gracefully and contained some ideas for your old dog including comfort, exercise, and cognitive and behavioral challenges.
This month we’re focusing on ensuring that older dogs are living full and happy lives – especially if they’re living with younger, more rambunctious dogs. In our household, we’ve got a 165 pound, three year old Great Dane living with our 55 pound, 14 year old Labrador. Size difference alone is enough to give any owner pause, but when the 55 pound dog is ancient in dog years, the concern escalates.

This month’s newsletter focuses on what you should be looking for if you’ve got an significant age discrepancy in your household, as well as some easy changes you can make to ensure that both the older and younger dogs’ needs are being met.

SDU Blog

The Smart Dog University blog is going strong into it's 8th year! Here are some articles we've shared over the past eight years.

The Blog is full of articles on just about every dog training topic. Many of our articles are accompanied by videos, too, so you can get a feel for what clicker training is all about.

Here are a few past articles worth seeing: We'll be highlighting more articles in upcoming issues, too. If you don't see what you're looking for, use the search feature on the blog to really zero in on what you're looking for!
Maryland Locals
Ideas needed

I'm looking for a space to rent to offer dog training classes during the daytime hours (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) in the local Mt. Airy / Damascus / Frederick, MD areas.

Need room for 5 dogs and owners, would prefer morning or early afternoon class times.

Email me if you have any leads!

Speaking Success

The four talks at ClickerExpo were enthusiastically received!

The talks centered around business (Scratch Your Niche), being a better instructor (Triple Planning; Effective Management Plans) and social media (Roadmap for Social Media Success).
I had a great time creating all my talks, here's a quick look at one of the slides from my "Help Me Now! Effective Management Plans" talk.

I'll also be attending CE Cincinnati, hopefully in the company of Tango (well mannered, friendly dogs are welcome at CE!).

Daily Dose of Dog

I'm Instagramming myself silly here on a daily basis.

Catch me being silly with the dogs (or just the dogs being silly)!
