"What an amazing trip to Tahiti. I honestly can't wait to do it again and if I know of anyone who is lucky enough to make the trip I will send them your way! We also really appreciated the champagne at both places wishing us a happy honeymoon!" - L.L.
Olá! From Lisbon and Sintra, Portugal

Last month I set off on an adventure in Portugal where I explored the capital city Lisbon and the picturesque town of Sintra.    Portugal is an amazing vacation destination as it has vibrant cities filled with history and a gorgeous coastline comprised a single 530-mile beach with vast stretches of golden sand. Portugal is rich in culture, the food and wine are awesome and the people are friendly.

Lisbon’s mix of traditional architecture and contemporary culture has made it an increasingly popular place to visit. Stroll along the cobblestone pedestrian malls and admire the white limestone buildings and intimate alleyways. Climb up the Cristo Rei, a huge statue of Christ with spectacular views across the whole city.  If you are visiting Lisbon, be sure to take the popular day trip to Sintra.

Outsmarting and Avoiding Pickpockets

Unfortunately, being a world traveler means you may need to take some extra precautions to protect yourself from pickpockets and petty theft.  Pickpockets often work in teams and come up with elaborate rouses to trick or distract you.  Nearly all crimes suffered by tourists are avoidable.

Tips to protect against pickpockets:

  1. Wear a money belt, neck pouch or cross body purse to keep your personal items hidden and close to your body. Use a padlock on your day pack.
  2. Don’t flash large amounts of cash and split up your cash and cards and store them separately on your person.
  3. Leave your valuables in the safe in your hotel room and leave your bling at home.
  4. Secure your bag or purse. When sitting at a café or on a bench make sure your day back is looped around your arm, leg or chair leg. This will help deter a snatch and grab.
  5. Stay vigilant in crowds and steer clear of commotions.  Often one person will cause a distraction while a second person snags your wallet or purse.

Be aware of the pitfalls of traveling, but relax and have fun. Limit your vulnerability rather than your travels!

"We had a great time at the Sandals Resort in Grenada! It was a wonderful choice for us. The food was excellent and the property did not seem to be overly crowded.  Thanks so much for the recommendation. We have passed your name to some friends looking for travel." - K.K.
