What is the Value of your Health?

2021: New year, new action plan!

Over the unparalleled year of 2020, our team worked in a fast-paced environment to face the Covid-19 constraints. 2021 brings tremendous challenges for worldwide Healthcare systems and we will contribute for innovation that generates high-value healthcare, with our core scientific knowledge in:

Digital Health    |    Data Science   |    Health Literacy   |    Health Economics
By collaboratively working with Portuguese healthcare providers, companies and I&D entities, we will continue developing new products and services for health outcomes measurement, telemonitoring, cost analysis and value assessment in Health!

Show me my Heart: paving the way for Value assessment

Our flagship project at Hospital de Santa Marta (Lisbon), Show me my Heart, consists of an outpatient telemonitoring service where nurses and surgeons are able to remotely manage the follow-up of patients in a daily basis.
In 2020, 30 patients were empowered to collect clinical, patient-reported outcomes and pictures of surgical wounds through IoT devices. After aggregating health data, our platform - BEATNIK - generated value-based reports to support clinical decision-making

In 2021, BEATNIK will be leveraged to the next level: automatic cost analysis module. For that, we are implementing the VBHC methodology Time-Driven Activity-Based Costing (TDABC). Focus groups, individual interviews and direct observations of care delivery activities are already being held with the patient pathway direct actors. We will then integrate outcomes-related information to accomplish our ultimate mission: value assessment.

ICHOM Covid-19 Standard Set was released!

The International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) finally launched the Covid-19 Standard Set, the result of a 3-months collaborative work!

Find the results here.
Ana Rita Londral, our CEO, integrated this international focus group of leading physicians, outcomes' measurement experts and patient representatives for the development of a Standard Set for Covid-19

Fraunhofer's "Thursdays with Science"!

On the 22th October, we participated on "Thursdays with Science", a weekly meeting of our Technology Founding Partner - Fraunhofer Portugal
After Ana Rita Londral presented our team, Pedro Dias, our Software Developer, provided a demo of BEATNIK – our value-based healthcare platform. Driven by innovation and adding value and better health outcomes to citizens, both partners discussed their vision for the potential of this partnership and future collaborative projects.

We were at the 1st CHRC Annual Summit!

On the 20th November, we participated at the 1st Annual Summit of Comprehensive Health Research Centre (CHRC), event coordinated by NOVA Medical School, Escola Nacional de Saúde Pública (ENSP)Évora UniversityHospital de Santo Espírito and Lisbon Institute of Global Mental Health.
Ana Rita Londral joined the round table Strategic future of digital transformation in Health. Salomé Pádua Azevedo, our Head of Digital Health, presented her systematic review on the Dimensions and methods used to assess home telemonitoring scalability
📤  Our main take-home message

Collaboratively learning among aca-demia, industry and society is the success key for the digital innovation that current challenges demand and scale-up of effective and efficient telemonitoring interventions.

We joined EIT Health event "AI in Healthcare: a perspective from Portugal"

On the 17th December, we participated at "Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: a perspective from Portugal", organized by EIT Health Portugal! The event joined hospitals, tech companies and health-related entities to present innovative AI projects and initiatives in the national Health context.

Ana Rita Londral joined the panel under the topic How can Healthcare networks support AI innovation? to present VOH.CoLAB's mission, structure and collaborative partnerships. At the Innovators Showcase session, we presented our on-going AI projects

👉 CardioFollow.AI: informed clinical decision-making through cardiothoracic surgery patients' telemonitoring
👉 FrailCare.AI: frailty prediction for the Portuguese elderly population

📤  Our main take-home message
The interest in AI tools application in Health is  currently boosting its potential. But the 1-million-dollar question remains: are Health systems ready to integrate AI technology and digitalize services to provide efficient care processes?
