FORTHCOMING CONCERT:

Wednesday 20 March 2013 at 7.30pm
The Chapter House, York Minster
Pergolesi's Stabat mater ranks as one of the most expressive baroque works for Holy Week, scored for female voices and accompanied by organ. No less dramatic, though more restrained through their male-voice a capella scoring, are the Renaissance works by Brumel (Lamentations) and Victoria (selections of his Tenebrae Responsories).
This concert also includes the premiere concert performance of Archtexture I by Dr Ambrose Field. This work was composed specifically for The Ebor Singers and first performed at the DAFx (Digital and Audio Effects) 2012 conference at the York Guildhall. Taking musical material from Allegri and Gombert, Field weaves melodic fragments and textural contrasts into a 20-minute tour de force exploiting choral sonority, which is well-suited to the remarkable acoustics of the Chapter House. The performance will be conducted by the composer.
