Act now! Join SCBC and Rails to Trails in asking state legislators to invest in Bay Area trails and safe bike/pedestrian routes to transit.
California legislators are considering two bills:
- 1. Two competing park bond bills to invest in trails, parks and wildlife habitat
- 2. A bill to allow Bay Area voters to consider a regional measure in 2018 that could provide funding for Bay Area trails and safe bike and pedestrian routes to transit
Ask legislators to increase the funding in Senate Bill 5 (SB 5) to $45 million for trails, maintain the $45 million funding level in Assembly Bill 18 (AB 18), provide $425 million for the per capita program, and $50 million for the Bay Area Program in the State Coastal Conservancy.
The legislature is also drafting SB 595 which would allow Bay Area voters to consider Regional Measure 3 in 2018 to raise bridge tolls to reduce traffic congestion. We need your help to ensure that, if voters pass that measure, some revenue from the tolls will be invested in providing commuters with smart, clean, active transportation options like trails, bikeways and walkways especially those that connect to BART, buses and ferries.
This funding could support completion of the Bay Trail, the SMART Pathway, the East Bay Greenway, and the San Jose trail network, and provide bicycle access to Bay Area bridges.
The time to act is NOW. Please write your legislators today! Ask them to support at least $300 million for the Trails/Safe Routes to Transit program under SB 595, and $100 million for Priority Conservation areas in SB 595. Together, we can make sure everyone in the Bay Area—and California—has access to trails, the outdoors, and active transportation options.
