Dear Members,

As we begin to wrap up the holiday season and transition into a new year ahead, I would like to take a moment to personally thank you for a wonderful 2016 and to ask for your continued support in 2017.

In the short time I've been on board at SCBC, I've been truly touched by the kindness and generosity of all of you. As a local non-profit, our success and greatness is directly dependent upon our many members and supporters. It's only with the generous support of all of you - be it financial, volunteer or other - that we're able to continue to successfully promote bicycling for transportation and recreation and to educate the community about bicycle safety and the benefits of cycling.

From our entire staff and Board of Directors, THANK YOU!

In 2017, with your support, we will continue to build upon our successes, further ensuring that safe routes to schools, work and play are a part of every planning decision and capital improvement project.

Some of the many projects and endeavors that we'll be helping to move forward in 2017 include:
  • Partnering with local law enforcement on bike theft sting operations
  • Partnering with the County of Marin on an updated road safety campaign with fresher and clearer messaging, such as "Give 3 Feet: It's the Law" and "Bikes May Use Full Lane"
  • Completing the SMART Multiuse Pathway
  • Ensuring secure and plentiful bike parking at SMART Stations, and plentiful and convenient bike storage on trains
  • Reporting roadway hazards and needed repairs to local jurisdictions and following up accordingly, including potholes, overgrown vegetation, malfunctioning signals or bike detection, etc.
  • Tracking and compiling roadway harassment incidents and data to share with local law enforcement to aide in the identification and prosecution of repeat offenders
  • Ensuring equitable bicycle access to and within our open spaces, where appropriate
  • Supporting planning and funding efforts to complete the Highway 101 Community Connector Bridge, Sonoma Valley Trail, Petaluma Boulevard South Road Diet, Santa Rosa Southeast Greenway, Lower Russian River Trail, Petaluma-Sebastopol Trail, and more!
With your help, we will continue to fight for the needs of cyclists - whether 8 or 80+ years old -  so that more and more adults and children can discover the freedom and simple pleasures of cycling.

That's not all! Thanks to generous donors, we still have $2,000 available in matching funds! Make a donation to SCBC before the end of the year and your gift will be matched dollar for dollar!

With utmost appreciation,

Alisha O'Loughlin, Executive Director
