Bike/Ped Funding (SB 1) Action Alert - Please Call Senator McGuire Today!

Let Senator McGuire Know You Support More Funding for Non-motorized & Public Transit

Tomorrow, February 14, the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee will have their first hearing to discuss Senate Bill 1—the huge transportation funding deal that will raise billions of dollars a year to repair and maintain roads. It’s been two years in the making but it's still stuck in the old school paradigm: more about roads and highways, including new capacity, rather than our transportation system of the future. It will continue to keep people stuck in their cars instead of giving Californians real, sustainable and affordable options.

Senator McGuire sits on this important committee. Please call Senator McGuire as soon as you finish reading this, or later today, or by tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at the latest, to urge a more visionary transportation bill.

Just a short message with whomever answers the phone—or on the voicemail—will get the job done. Tell them (1) your name; (2) where you live; and (3) that you want to see a transportation deal for the future.

Use the following talking points:

  • You support the proposed increase in the Active Transportation Program for more bikeways, trails, sidewalks, Open Streets events and Safe Routes to School programs;
  • The money should be prioritized to lower-income communities who need it the most;
  • It should include transit operating funds.

Senator McGuire wants to hear from you. This is an opportunity to express that you want bikes, transit, and walking to be better supported in this bill. You can provide more information by reading about the 82 organizations working together to improve this bill, including SCBC, and review the letter sent by the California Bicycle Coalition on behalf of all of these organizations last week.

Call Senator McGuire at (916) 651-4002.

Thanks for taking action today!
