Ask Legislators to Pass Trails & Parks Bond
The legislative session ends this Friday—and time is running out for lawmakers in Sacramento to pass a long-overdue trails and parks bond.
SCBC is joining our friends at Rails to Trails in urging legislators not to leave without passing this incredibly important bill.
Please write your elected officials and tell them to pass the trails and parks bond.

Both chambers of the Legislature need to pass a final bill before Friday. These wise investments in trails and open space are long overdue. They’re not just great for recreation and connecting us to the outdoors—these investments help keep us healthy and choose non-polluting ways to get around.

The Better World Club (BWC), a green alternative to AAA, has the only 24/7 nationwide roadside assistance service for bicycles in the country! They are not part of the highway lobby, but support funding and development of bike lanes, public transit, and the regulation of automobile emissions. (AAA has fought against bike lanes and public transit funding.) The Coalition has formed a partnership with them: sign up with BWC and use our special promo code SOBA0000 and you will receive a 10% discount…PLUS they will make a donation to the Coalition!

Record Attendance at
CHP Safety Fair/Bike Rodeo!
Over 300 people (183 kids/124 adults) participated in our Bike Rodeo at the California Highway Patrol’s 2nd annual Roseland Health and Safety Fair this past Saturday, September 9th – our highest attendance yet for a Community Bike Rodeo. Free helmets (donated by the CHP) were distributed to over 200 participants; over 85 kids received on-bicycle training on our supervised skill/safety course; and over 40 participants received free bicycle safety checks/repairs donated by NorCal Bike Sport/The Bike Peddler. We were joined by our rail safety education partners at Operation Lifesaver, who set up an information table and helped provide on-bike rail crossing instruction on our skills course. Thank you to the awesome volunteers from SCBC, Technology High School, Rancho Cotati High School, and the CHP Explorers Program who supported this event, assisting with registration, helmet fittings, and course monitoring – we couldn’t do it without you! Our next Community Bike Rodeo is on Saturday, 9/23 from 10:00am-1:00pm at the Healdsburg Community Center. If you are interested in volunteering, contact saferoutes@bikesonoma.org!

Mountain Bikes on Fitch Mountain
It took almost three decades to protect the top of Fitch Mountain from development and have it officially dedicated as an open space and reserve. It was complicated and time consuming, involving many hours of hard work by individual volunteers and staff members from many organizations.
From the outset, it was intended that the park be open to all types of non-motorized, active use, including mountain bikes... [Read more]
