SMART Seeking Comments on Station Bike Parking Investment Plan

SMART is seeking input on its SMART Station Bicycle Parking Investment Plan. The Investment Plan calls for a mix of inverted u-racks, e-lockers, and bicycle stations, with the number of racks and degree of security varying by the amount of bicycle demand forecasted at the stations. Comments are due by 5 PM on Monday, September 19th.

It is important to note that the number and type of bicycle parking facilities reflected in the Investment Plan’s near-term recommendations will not necessarily be installed when service begins. [Read More..]

Springs Festival Kicks Off Fall 2016 Bike Education Season!

We kicked off our Fall 2016 Bike Education season with a “Bike Rodeo” at The Springs Festival this past Saturday, September 10th. Our Safe Routes to School crew set up a bicycle skill/safety course, gave away free helmets, provided bike safety checks, and offered free valet bicycle parking. Add Your Name in Support of an At-Grade Bike/Ped Rail Crossing at Jennings Avenue

Dear California Public Utilities Commissioners:

We the undersigned, enthusiastically support the City of Santa Rosa’s efforts to improve the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists crossing the Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) right-of-way at Jennings Avenue. An at-grade crossing at Jennings Avenue will improve public safety and provide a convenient way for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the SMART tracks. The people who stand to benefit most from the at-grade crossing include children walking to Helen Lehman Elementary School, as well as people walking to work, shopping and the transit hub located at Coddingtown Mall. Gearing Up For International Walk & Roll to School Day 2016

Our Safe Routes to School staff is hard at work coordinating the annual International Walk & Roll to School Day event, which is on Wednesday, October 5th. Last year, over 60 Sonoma County schools participated, with over 10,000 students walking, bicycling, skateboarding, or scootering to school – not to mention thousands of additional parents, teachers, and school staff. The Safe Routes to School program provides participating schools with stickers, incentive prizes, posters, a guidebook, and technical support to put on a fabulous event. This year, registered schools will be receiving “Walk and Roll Wednesdays” magnets to help promote the concept of utilizing active transportation at least one day a week year-round.  [Read More..]

Section of Joe Rodota Trail Temporarily Closed for Upgrades

The improvements include narrowing the bridge, which is more than 50 years old; replacing deck and support beams, railings and part of a retaining wall; and installing new asphalt approaches.  The repairs will reinforce this trail section for the next several decades of use.
