To stay true to the spirit of this day, we put a spotlight on several women making a difference in WASH, including our new Executive Director. Also, we shed light on the gender inequities that persist.

The gender equity blind spot
Over the last decade, WASH organizations have made progress in including gender equity in their programing. But as we put more focus on women beneficiaries, we may be overlooking the gender disparities in our own workplaces. WaterSHED is proud to announce Sovattha Neou as our new Executive Director. Sovattha brings more than a decade of international development experience and a fresh perspective on tackling open defecation and poor hygiene. Stronger together

Ren Lek and Norng Sothy are neighbours who began working together after joining WEwork, WaterSHED’s training and peer-mentoring network for women interested in the WASH market. The two women capitalized on the opportunities in the market by selling potties and portable sinks. What’s more - one gave much of her share of the profits to help the other climb out of poverty.
