Friends support Teen Mini Maker Faire

The Friends donated $500 to the Tualatin Library for the Teen Mini Maker Faire on March 12th. The Faire was part of  the "Libraries are for Making" Teen Tech Week program where teens took learning beyond the classroom to explore, create, and spark their imaginations. Teens participated in projects to create toothbrush robots, LED gizmos, and more!

Meet Sonya, our new Board Member

We're pleased to introduce Sonya Ambuehl who has been elected to fill a vacant position on the Friends Board. Sonya has been a dedicated volunteer at our booksales and now we welcome her enthusiastic support at our bimonthly board meetings. In addition to her work with the Friends, Sonya volunteers two mornings a week processing library check-ins and serves on two City committees: the Tualatin Library Advisory Committee and the City Facilities Task Force.

Friends contribute funds for tackboards

Tackboards have been installed above the Tualatin library's audiobook section with funds donated by the Friends. The tackboards will be used to post flyers about various library programs. They're attached to the shelving, giving it a more finished look. We hope you like them!

Friends support ESL tutoring

The Friends have donated funding to the library to support an English as a second language tutoring program. The money goes toward textbooks and workbooks to help people improve their English skills with trained volunteers in a one-on-one tutoring environment.

If you’re interested in this program, please call the library at 503-691-3072. An appointment is required, but various days and times are available.

Friends sponsor Symphony Storytime

Kids and their families met members of the Oregon Symphony at the Tualatin Library Symphony Storytime every Wednesday in February. This series of interactive storytimes for toddlers and preschoolers is supported each year by Friends of the Tualatin Library.

Each one-hour storytime featured one of the four families of musical instruments: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. And, of course, a story. Musicians played short selections, talked a little about their instrument and, after the stories were read aloud, audience members could try out each instrument.

Visit our new website

Friends of Tualatin Library launched a new website in January. The website includes lots of information about the ways we support the Tualatin Public Library, volunteer opportunities, upcoming events, and tips for making book and media donations for our book sales. The blog-style format makes it easy to update with news stories and to link them to our Facebook page.

Visitors to our website are invited to sign up to receive emails when we post news stories to the website. Simply enter your email address in the “subscribe to our blog” box in the right sidebar. You don’t need to be a member to receive these announcements. We invite you to visit our website today.
