Three takeaways from the #BCTECH Summit

Technology is changing everything. And this change is accelerating at an exponential rate. It’s already central to our lives; in our cellular phones, in the pictures we store on the Internet and in our workplace. That’s why it is crucial that British Columbians embrace technology and all the opportunities around it. The #BCTECH Summit was a platform to showcase all that our province has to offer. We wanted to inspire attendees with a look at BC's future. I came away very inspired, and with a few key takeaways.
1) BC is bursting with ideas. This was clear from the Trade Show floor to the Technology Showcase, from the Career Showcase to the B2B Meetings, and everything in between at the #BCTECH Summit. It was fantastic to feel everyone's enthusiasm for the future – the buzz was palatable.

2) To get these ideas into our economy and to increase opportunities for British Columbians requires solid support. Companies need talent, capital and markets. This is the focus of BCIC and the BC Government's #BCTECH Strategy. To make BC a great place for entrepreneurs, it will take financing and the right people to get those great ideas to market.

3) It's important to have a strong community. The energy at the two-day Summit reminded me what a great community we have. People rekindled old friendships and made many new ones. Technology is used everywhere and crosses all industries traditional and new, and from the remote regions to the heart of the city.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this event. I can't wait to see the community further connect at the #BCTECH Summit 2017.
