Bioversity International at the 13th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP 13), 4-17 December 2016, Cancun, Mexico.

Dear colleague

In a few days time, more than 200 Ministers from around the world will meet at COP13 in Cancun. The CBD is the most important global instrument to promote the conservation of biodiversity, the sustainable use of its components and the fair and equitable distribution of its benefits arising from the utilization of genetic resources.

Bioversity International is participating with partners in around 15 side-events at COP13 to promote our key message that:

"Mainstreaming agricultural and tree biodiversity in sustainable food and production systems is critical if we are to achieve the Convention on Biological Diversity's Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 and its Aichi Targets."

We hope you will join us to ensure that the importance of agricultural biodiversity to nourish people and sustain the planet is recognized in the Ministerial Declaration on the 'Integration of Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity for Well-being' which will reflect the decisions reached at the High-Level Segment of the COP13 meeting.

We look forward to seeing you there.

M. Ann Tutwiler, Director General, Bioversity International
