Have you noticed that every time the wind picks up your thoughts seem to swirl away with it? In the Ayurveda world this is the Vata time of year (in the Northern hemisphere), signified by the cooler, dryer air, movement and change. When in balance, this can be a deeply creative and constructive time. When out of balance, we can lose ourselves in melancholy, lack of focus and anxiety. Add on the continued chaos of the world with the news changing every day and we really have our work cut out for us.

This is why anything that brings grounding is so vital right now. Setting our regular routines that include exercise, Yoga and meditation. Eating at the same time everyday and choosing foods that are cooked (soups over salad) and warming like root vegetables and herbal tea. Journaling can help make sense of our thoughts and create clarity of mind. Meditations that involve breath practices and mantra will help us stay centred. Being at home  is also very grounding, however Vata energy struggles with staying put for too long so  make extra sure you are still getting outside for some fresh air over these next few months. 

With this in mind, I've tried to help bring you grounded and calm energy this month with some new and loved offerings. The theme for this month's At Home Retreat is of course, Grounded + Calm - November 21st. I'm also hosting another Sangha Meditation Circle on Dec. 6th free or by donation. Vata represents an airy quality that is cool and dry and also a period of infused creativity, when unbalanced it often leaves the mind scattered and in melancholy. Mimicking nature’s desire for hibernation, our self-care practice should be centred on warmth, calmness and quieting the mind.
