July 2022
Deirdre Goldenbogen, RIXML Executive Director
I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer.  It's hard to believe a year has passed since I moved into the role of Executive Director.  In that time, we have welcomed a number of new members, finalized the first release of the RIXML Investment Research Linkback Technical Implementation Guide, discussed changes in the investment research landscape, and started identifying the opportunities for updating and enhancing our standards to ensure that they meet the industry's needs today and into the future.

Below is a summary of RIXML's second all-member quarterly meeting, held on Thursday, June 16, 2022.  After more than two years, we were able to meet in person.  It was great to re-connect with people and to finally meet some of our newer members!

I am happy to announce that Raymond James will be hosting our September quarterly meeting.  See below for more details.

RIXML Quarterly Members' Meeting Summary

Below are the highlights of the June 16 quarterly meeting:
Welcoming our newest member

We would like to extend a warm welcome to

AlphaSense

Thank you for joining the RIXML community!  We look forward to your participation.

Keynote speaker

Michael Mayhew

Principal, Integrity Research Associates, LLC

Mike Mayhew of Integrity Research Associates provided his insights on global research and data.  He shared his research and observations regarding traditional and alternative data, research, the ESG landscape, and regulatory actions.  A robust discussion followed as Mike helped us dig deeper into these topics.  RIXML members can request a copy of Mike's slides by contacting the Program Office.

We are very grateful to Mike for sharing his expertise with us.

RIXML v3.0 update

Sal Restivo provided an update on the status of the project:
RIXML v3.0 timeline

Rather than focusing on the tags that exist in the current standard and determining what new tags we might want to add, we took a step back and discussed more broadly the changes in the investment research landscape that have occurred since our last major update to the RIXML standards.

The discussion included specific questions for investment research publishers, for investment research consumers, and for aggregators.  By taking the time to make sure we are looking at investment research and interactions from all perspectives, we will ensure that we are updating and enhancing our standards in a way that will meet the needs of all constituents in our industry.

Sal's presentation can be found here, and is an important resource for anyone looking to understand the topics we are discussing as part of the RIXML v3.0 initiative.

We encourage all RIXML participants to go through this document and reach out to us with your thoughts on any (or all!) of the topics.  We will also be holding targeted meetings on some of the topics, and are happy to set up a time to meet with you or anyone at your firm.  Feel free to share this newsletter and/or Sal's presentation to anyone at your firm.

Please watch your inbox for updates about each of these topics, and use the button below to sign up for the topic teams that you would like to be involved in.

RIXML Financials

Our Treasurer Jay Clarke of Raymond James provided an update on RIXML's financials:
  • Our financial picture is solid
  • Firms have been extremely timely in their payments, which is much appreciated
  • Invoices are sent throughout the year based on the anniversary of when each firm joined RIXML and are sent approximately 60 days before the renewal date
How you can help

With so many initiatives underway, it can be hard to keep track of the ways your firm may be able to contribute to RIXML.org.  Below is a summary of specific things you can do to help:

  • Check with the teams that manage your firm's RIXML Research and Interactions implementations.  Gather information about potential enhancements: pain points, evolving technologies and processes, gaps that require custom solutions, etc.
  • Sign up for the RIXML v3 topic teams that you would like to participate in - join as many teams as you would like!
  • Reach out to subject matter experts at your firm.  Forward this email to them and/or invite them sign up for a topic team.
  • VENDORS:  we would love your help identifying areas of the standards that do not get used or are often incorrectly implemented.  See pages 10-11 of this document for our specific questions.
  • Share the RIXML Linkback Technical Implementation Guide with the teams within your organization involved in the planning and/or execution phases of a linkback initiative; ask them to identify areas in which it is helpful and areas where it could be improved.  Encourage them to join the Linkback Working Group and/or sign up for our mailing list.
  • Forward this email to anyone at your firm you think might be interested in any of RIXML's 2022 initiatives, and invite them to join the mailing list.
