As we get closer to the end of the 2020 school year just a reminder that this year we trialed a new format for reporting to parents, we met with you all in Term 1 and Term 3. As a staff we feel that this has been a positive move however it is a new way of us reporting to you. As always, all staff are just an email / phone call or a visit away if you have any questions or queries regarding your child’s learning journey.

End of Year organisation: On Monday 14th December at 1 p.m. there will be the formal end of term celebration, fly up for the Year 4’s and fly away for our Year 8’s. All our students attend this and whānau are invited.

The Year 8’s will have their Year 8 dinner and farewell that night. They have a separate invitation for this.

School finishes at 3 p.m. on Tuesday 15th December.

Pack the Bus! Friday 4th December. For those who can support this please send your gift to the office.

School Show - Jump on Board: Wow didn't the students do so well. What a great experience for them all to get to perform on stage in front of 2 packed crowds. Many thanks to everyone for your support of this event. A special mention to Rosa, her dream came true to create and perform her own show. An inspiration to our students and a testament to OUR SCHOOL VALUES! If you haven't already seen the recorded show click here.

Athletics: Congratulations to our athletes who competed in Masterton last Friday. Well done to you all. See photos on Facebook.

Next week we have 6 students who have made the South Wairarapa team to travel to wellington to the regional event, all the best to them.

Swimming: I have been privileged to be at the pool each day to witness the growth in all our junior students’ water confidence. A huge thank you to LION FOUNDATION for making this opportunity possible. We do urge parents, where possible, to continue giving your children as much exposure as possible over the holiday break to being in the water. A reminder that all South Wairarapa pools are free.

The SENIOR (Year 5 - Year 8 students) will begin their lessons next week. Please ensure that they all have their togs each day. This is an amazing opportunity for ALL students.

Pedal Ready: Bike safety has finished for this year. Please be safe out there on the roads if you are riding your bikes.
Many thanks to those who were able to support the bake sale last weekend, a few more dollars were raised for our school’s activities.
Thought for the week

Friendships take work, just like any other relationship, and it's important that we give our children the tools to find good friends and become good friends themselves. Here's how to start;

Teach them the golden rule. It's basic, but a classic for good reason. Teaching your kids to treat others only as they'd want to be treated themselves covers a world of friendship questions and scenarios. In reverse, teach them to recognise when a friend isn't treating them as kindly as they treat that friend.

Important information to share:

Head Lice / Nits
Head lice are doing the rounds. It is not a sin to have nits but it is not acceptable to ignore them and not treat them. Our school policy states that we will contact you to come and get your child if they are found to have nits. Regular checks are so important and prevent spreading.

FOSES (Friends of South End School): The team are already collating ideas for 2021 - share please if you have any.

Jackie Kirk: our new Kowhai 3/4 teacher for 2021 is looking for a room and board / granny flat from Monday to Friday, term time only OR a place to rent for the year. If anyone can help, please email or contact Clare or Kat.

Level 1: for us is school as usual, we are still sanitising and continuing to remind students to wash their hands. We sincerely thank you for your support in this effort to keep everyone safe.

Reminders:
School Sausage Sizzle: EVERY FRIDAY, $2 for sausage and bread, sauce and mustard. Please give your order and money to the teacher at 9AM.

The Year 4's from Kahikatea have been studying the evolution of plants. They created beautiful models of their chosen flowering plant. They paid particular attention to details like petal shape and arrangement as well as pistil and stamens. We are sure you can recognise some of the flowering plants!

Reminder, we are a Water Only School. We encourage all students to have a water bottle with them at school. If a child brings another type of drink to school the teachers will take the drink off them and give it back at the end of the day, to take home.
