Kia ora koutou Te Kura o Taitonga
What an amazing school community you are, thank you so much for getting in behind the Global Food Festival. We are thrilled to share that we made $5,000 on the night. Again, a huge thank you to all who helped in so many ways. Some of this money will go towards our container Science Lab that we are creating for the students and wider community and the rest will be used for the students’ activities and essentials.

Lots happening this term and a few changes…

Athletics: All families should have received their notice/s about Monday 2nd November, and where each event is etc. i.e.: Year 1 & 2’s at School and Year 3 to Year 8 at Carrington Park. If for any reason you do not have this information please contact Kat: office@southend.school.nz.

Year 3 to Year 8 families, we would really appreciate some baking to sell at the sausage sizzle fundraiser to be held at Carrington Park. You can either bring your donated baking to the staffroom before school or drop them to us at Carrington Park from 9:30 AM.

School Show - Jump on Board! Today a paper notice will be shared with each family. Attached to the notice will be 2 tickets to the night performance. If you don't require them please return them to the office ASAP. Full details regarding the tickets are in the notice.

Thought for the week

What if we teach kids that the benchmark for success and worth isn’t dependent on grades or behaviour charts, not on how popular they are, nor is it how stylish or smart they might be.

Let’s teach them kindness, a work ethic, and service to others.

Let’s show them how they can love and help those around them: that should be their goal.

Important information to share:

School Show - Jump on Board! All our students are involved in this production that will be on Thursday 12th November (2 shows - matinee and night performance) at the Carterton Events centre. Please keep this date free. Ticket allocations and further information will be shared with families today.

FOSES (Friends of South End School): We have been offered to fundraise at the WAITRI bike run, paintball activity morning being held on Saturday, 21st November at Borderlands in Carterton. Contact Clare if you are able to help (the details for the event can be found here - great fun for the kids).

Jackie Kirk, our new Kowhai 3/4 teacher for 2021 is looking for a room and board / granny flat from Monday to Friday, term time only. If anyone can help, please email or contact Clare or Kat.

Level 1: for us is school as usual, we are still sanitising and continuing to remind students to wash their hands. We sincerely thank you for your support in this effort to keep everyone safe.

Exciting News: Free Swimming Lessons! Junior school will start Week 6 and Senior school Week 8. We are thrilled to announce that we were successful in a grant application to the Lions Foundation to get 10 free swimming lessons for every child at South End School this Term. We will be transporting the children to the Carterton indoor pool where they will be in a group of 5 students and a swim coach. This will happen over a 2 week period every school day (i.e. 10 lessons). We will share more information closer to the time.

Reminders:
School Sausage Sizzle: EVERY FRIDAY, $2 for sausage and bread, sauce and mustard. Please give your order and money to the teacher at 9AM.

Reminder, we are a Water Only School. We encourage all students to have a water bottle with them at school. If a child brings another type of drink to school the teachers will take the drink off them and give it back at the end of the day, to take home.
