 ASF Seed Business 2015 Convention                                                       

Tuesday 25 August 2015 - Thursday 27 August 2015 (inclusive) 
City Golf Club, Toowoomba, Queensland

The ASF is pleased to announce Seed Business 2015 is going to be held at the City Golf Club Toowoomba, Queensland.

The theme for this year's Convention will be based on new Biotechnology and Northern Agriculture.

There will be a social day on Monday 24th August with the Annual ASF Golf Day being held for those that wish to take part.

The ASF will once again be holding a Seed Industry Training Day on Tuesday 25 August 2015 similar to the introductory session held last year. We will also be holding more in-depth workshops during this day on specific topics for those that may have attended last year and would like further training. More detail about this will be released soon.

We are currently working on confirming a number of exciting speakers for the program and hope to have a draft agenda out soon.

 ASF Code of Practice Logo Stickers for sale                                           

The ASF Code of Practice logo is now available in Stickers provided by Rowena Petrie from Royston Petrie Seeds. These can be used on bags and seed packets.

Quantity = 1000 stickers per roll priced at $55 per roll plus GST and postage.

 ISF Update - Uruguay to Host the ISF 2016 World Seed Congress        

While in Poland for the International Seed Federation’s 2015 World Seed Congress, Pablo Civetta, chair of the National Organizing Committee for the Uruguayan seed association, announced that the 2016 congress will be held in Punta del Este, Uruguay, from 15 - 18 May 2016.

The theme of the 2016 World Seed Congress will be 'The Natural Way Forward in Business & Life'...Full text - Click here

 Nuffield Farming Scholarships 2016

The application phase for 2016 Nuffield Farming Scholarships opened on 1st April and closes on 30th June. To attract good-quality applicants, Nuffield has a three-pronged approach:
  1. Utilise our alumni to encourage potential applicants;
  2. Media relations and promotional strategy; and
  3. Identify potential applicants by utilising our investors and industry stakeholders.

 RIRDC report - 'Commercial seed technology for tedera'                       

RIRDC has issued a report on 'Commercial seed technology for tedera' for your information and consideration.

This report describes research designed to support the development of commercial seed production technologies for tedera (Bituminaria bituminosa var. albomarginata) and includes (a) glasshouse studies to measure seed yield response to different watering regimes prior to and during the period of flowering; (b) controlled field studies to measure the variability within the species for plant characters that influence seed production and (c) harvesting technologies to scale-up seed production for commercial application.

 FSANZ calls for submissions on plans for future work                          

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has called for submission to help develop the organisation's three-year forward plan known as the 'Work Plan'.

"The Work Plan ensures stakeholders have an opportunity to keep up to date on all the applications and proposals FSANZ is working on," FSANZ Chief Executive Officer Steve McCutcheon said.

"The plan is reviewed by FSANZ on a quarterly basis and also updated regularly on the website to ensure stakeholders are kept up to date on any changes to our timeframes for assessing applications and proposals," Mr McCutcheon said.

Written submissions are invited on the Work Plan by 6pm (Canberra time) 22 June 2015.

 Project Harvest Monthly Report - February 2015                                     

There is an increasing need in Australia's horticulture industry to monitor and gauge consumer perception and behaviour in relation to fresh vegetables.

Colmar Brunton conducts monthly on-line tracking following specified vegetables, monthly trends analysis, and additional ad-hoc projects to assist in this understanding of consumers.

This project has been funded by HIA using vegetable industry levy and matched funds from the Australian Government.

 Plant Breeders: Register for Program Management Course                  

The Seed Biotechnology Centre at the University of California, Davis, will host a short course 'Program Management for Plant Breeders (PMPB)' from 22 - 24 September 2015 at its Davis, California campus.

The course is designed to enhance the management skills of professional scientists who are leading and directing plant breeding laboratory programs in modern agricultural research and development operations of agribusiness companies and the public sector. Full text - Click here
