Here are our favorite ideas for a stay-at-home Mother's Day:

1- Get creative and build a Spa Day Kit: Scrubs, Bath bombs, Clay Masks, Candles, Aromatherapy... we all need some extra self-care right now.

2- Make a list of things you love about Mom and give it to her (or mail it): an envelop that doesn't contain bills to pay... yes please!

3- Make a homemade card: Cards are considered "non-essential" this year and "illegal" to purchase in both Ontario and Quebec........ So get your glitter and glue out!

4- Share pictures: The digital world doesn't let us flip through photo albums like we use too. Don't let that stop you from sharing pictures on your computer or TV screen. Do a virtual chat and share your photo albums on the same screen. You'll also share a few laughs guaranteed!

5- Host a baking class or a virtual baking class: If you can't bake together in the same kitchen, then do a virtual bake-off is the way to go. Nothing beats baking a few homemade sweets and treats this Mother's Day. 

Mothers Day Brunch Ideas

Our Nutritionist Katherine says: "Mother’s day is around the corner! Here are some of my favourite you can whip up to treat mom to a delicious brunch." 
Breakfast Tacos

Tacos are amazing… any time of the day! This one is good for a DIY brunch buffet and here’s how we like to make them:
  • Scrambled eggs or a tofu scramble if you’re vegan
  • Sautéed veggies - onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, black beans
  • Toppings like avocado, salsa and hot sauce
  • Optional cheese - queso fresco or feta 
  • Can’t forget some greens! Microgreens are a great addition to breakfast tacos
  • Corn tortillas if you’re gluten free or whole wheat tortillas
Pancakes with Yogurt & Blueberry Chia Compote

Pancakes, however you make them are always a hit. Add a homemade berry compote for a great, healthy alternative to typical sugary pancake toppings. Here is a quick and east berry compote recipe:

Ingredients
  • 2 cups frozen blueberries (or other frozen berries of choice)
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp honey, maple syrup or stevia
  • 1 - 2 tbsp chia seeds
Method
  • Place fruit into a saucepan and cook down on medium-low heat until it begins to soften and syrup - about 10 minutes.
  • Mash with a fork to your desired texture.
  • Stir in your sweetener of choice, lemon juice and chia seeds.
  • Let stand for a few minutes for chia to gel a bit - if it’s too runny, stir in more chia seeds.
Sourdough Toasts with Avocado & Poached Egg

Such a good combination. Sourdough is one of the healthiest and easier to digest breads due to its fermentation.
If you’re gluten free, you can use any gluten free toast you prefer. 

Many people shy away from poached eggs  thinking they’re hard to make - but here is a foolproof method for you:
  • Bring a pot of water to a boil (deeper is better)
  • Add in a tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice.
  • Crack an egg into a small bowl.
  • Gently slide egg into the boiling water.
  • Repeat with your next egg.
  • Reduce heat to medium.
  • Remove the eggs with a slotted spoon after two minutes for a medium boiled egg.
  • Drain on a paper towel and voila!
