Please note that the Deadline for our "All Things Bright and Beautiful" project is 5pm today, Monday, August 24th.  See details below.

We will have a Zoom-based Communion Service on the evening of this Wednesday, August 26th at 7pm.  (A link will go out with tomorrow's e-mail.  I am unable to access Zoom this morning.)

Friends, we will be testing our Live Streaming Equipment at 10:45am this morning.  Click the following link at that time to watch our test:  https://youtu.be/4nlulK1frMM

PLEASE NOTE:   We still do not have voicemail access at the church for our main phone number.   Because Dorothy is on vacation this week, please direct any time-sensitive messages to Emile.  You may do so by calling my cell phone directly - or by e-mailing me (which can even be done by hitting "reply" to this e-mail.)
Devotion for Monday, August 24th

Worship
Dear Friends,

The following is less devotion and more report on our Worship ministries at WPPC, but it reflects what I am working on these days, and I hope helps give an idea of where we are and where we might be going together.

Worshiping God is a tremendous gift.  Singing praise and prayer to God is such a great joy.  Hearing the Bible read and proclaimed is to hear Jesus teaching among us. Turning to God in prayer is to hold hands with one another and peer into the mystery and majesty of God.  Coming to the Lord's Table is to be loved as a guest invited.  Joining with family and friends in worship is to be a part of God's own, beloved family.

Friends, I am so very thankful for our chance to worship together.  One of the hardest things about the current situation is that it has upended our worshiping life together, but I am thankful for the creativity that the situation has also called from among us.  I am thankful for the ways in which people are continuing to contribute toward our praise and worship of God - in so many ways.

Friends, as I report on some nuts and bolts below, please know that I am working on these things because worship is so vitally important to us as a church - and to each of us as God's beloved children.

First:  Live Streaming

Earlier this summer, our Session decided to pursue Live-Streaming our worship service.

In the coming weeks, Rachel, Sharon, and I - along with worship leaders from among the congregation - will lead a worship service on Sunday morning from the Sanctuary.  The service will be able to be watched live - or a recorded version will be available soon after the service is over.

Our intention is, when it becomes advisable for members of the church to begin attending worship in-person, we will be able to continue to offer the live-streamed version to those who are not able to attend in person.

Our hope is that the live version of the service will also be a bit more "like normal" than the worship e-mails while also involving less time doing technical work and more time doing ministry for our staff.

This morning, as the note at the top of the e-mail indicates, we are going to be testing our live-streaming equipment.  My hope is, by testing things and getting to know how the system works, we can have a smoother transition to live worship.

So, if you "tune in" this morning, you will see and hear Sharon, Rachel, Ed, and I sing and play several hymns.  You will hear readings.  Chances are you will also see a certain amount of confusion!  :)

The hope is that we will get our confusion, poor set-ups, and other "technical difficulties" out of the way before we use the system to worship together on a Sunday morning.

This likely won't be the last test.  And, if you notice things that don't look or sound quite right from home, please tell us!   In fact, if it is particularly egregious, go ahead and text me while we are testing!

I don't know quite yet which Sunday will be our first live-streamed service.   We are still waiting for one final piece of our new internet set-up:    A wired connection for our balcony.  (This should provide an internet connection that is faster and less susceptible to hiccups.)   How well our "tests" go will also determine how quickly we are able to make the jump.

Again, if you are able to do so this morning, "tune in" on Youtube at or after 10:45am:   https://youtu.be/4nlulK1frMM

Second:  Outdoor Worship / Zoom Worship

Friends,

Soon, I hope to announce an outdoor worship schedule for September.

My experience at the Outdoor Wednesday Evening service has been very positive.  I hope it has been as well for those of you who have been able to attend.

I have heard from several people (who cannot always come on Wednesday evening) a desire to have a service on another night as well.  I will be speaking with the Worship Commission soon to talk about that possibility.

The Zoom-Based Communion Service has also seemed to be meaningful to those who participate in it.  And for those for whom in-person gatherings of any sort are not a good idea right now, it is a way to connect with their church family in worship.   It is also just fun to see everyone's faces "Brady Bunch" style.

Our attempt at a morning Communion Service seemed was less well attended.  (And only happened on try 3 of 3!)

As the Seasons change, we will need to change with the the weather and sunlight.  A 7pm service makes more sense in September than in December!

If you have thoughts about the services that we have held thus far, please share them with me or a member of our Worship Commission  (Elder Members:   Margie M., Susan C., Amy M. H.)

Friends, I am thankful to have the opportunity to worship with you.   Even if we are outdoors, wearing masks, it is good to see friendly faces and worship God together!

Again, we will get a September schedule out soon!

God Bless and Keep You All - and Let us worship God together in joy!

Emile
Psalm 150 (NRSV)

Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
   praise him in his mighty firmament!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
   praise him according to his surpassing greatness!

Praise him with trumpet sound;
   praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
   praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with clanging cymbals;
   praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!

"All Things Bright and Beautiful"

You don't have to be a member of our Chancel Choir to participate!  Just record yourself singing!  All are welcome!

How to participate:

1.  Watch this video of Ed, Rachel, and Sharon singing.
"All Things Bright and Beautiful" - August Project Core Track
2.   Download the (UPDTATED) copy of the song: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fAdRYUFkvbJlH9bnz0GhMsm0rWp56zJg/view?usp=sharing

3.  Make a recording of you singing this song in sync with Ed, Rachel, and Sharon

Sing any part!

To record in sync with Ed, Sharon, and Rachel, you will need two devices:
  1. One phone, tablet, or computer to listen to the song video as you play along
  2. and a second camera/phone/tablet to record the video of you singing.
(PLEASE wear headphones while recording.  This makes it much more likely that  you will be in sync and makes the editing process easier.)

4.  Then share the file with Emile by Google Drive, Drop Box or another file-sharing service.  (The video will be too large to text or e-mail.  If you need help, please ask!)

The deadline to send me a video will be Monday, August 24th at 5pm.   After that I will begin editing the video together - and it is really difficult add a late video after I've begun work.

5.  Call or text Emile to make sure I got the video.  (Sometimes file transfers don't work the first time - especially if you've not sent a file to me before.  I REALLY don't want to accidentally leave out someone who recorded a song!)

Thank you all!  The more voices the better!
