Stradbroke Online Newsletter - 30/03/20
Dear <<First Name>>

Normally there would be a long list of events and happenings to report in the bi-weekly Stradbroke Online Newsletter. As you no doubt realise there are no such events to promote at the moment but we all hope you are keeping well and safe during the current pandemic.

On Thursday the nation hand clapped all our NHS staff for the fantastic work they are doing in very challenging circumstances at the moment. We must also applaud and thank all our local businesses and shop-workers together with all other essential workers in the food industry, farmers, delivery drivers, postmen and women and many more. Without their dedication and hard work we would not be in the fortunate position that we are now.

We must also thank all the volunteers in the Good Neighbours Scheme. Following the distribution of a flyer asking for volunteers to come forward to help those who are unable to get out because of the coronavirus. They received an overwhelming response such that they now have over 100 clients who need help and 66 volunteers who are willing to collect and deliver prescriptions and medical supplies plus shopping. They also have volunteers who are willing to have a friendly chat over the phone to anyone who is feeling lonely and need some moral support. No doubt many of us will be in need of their help in the coming weeks.

The Good Neighbours Scheme in Stradbroke has been running for 17 years and has been very reliant on just a small number of volunteers making a super-human effort to keep the scheme running. It is thanks to them that we have an excellent support network in place.  In time, we may come to realise a number of good things to come out of this crisis, perhaps one will be the number of new ‘recruits’ that continue to volunteer long into the future. If you want to volunteer, need help or know someone in need of help that you can’t support, call  the Good Neighbours help line  07749445531 anytime between  9am to 5pm.

On more mundane matters Mid Suffolk have announced that there will be no brown bin collections until further notice. Full details of waste services - https://www.midsuffolk.gov.uk/waste-services/covid-19-collection-changes/

In line with Government guidance the play-parks in Westhall and Wilby Road are both closed as is the outdoor gym equipment around the fitness track in the sports field. However, the fitness track is still open and of course we have lots of lovely walks around the village to enjoy.

Do keep an eye on our website and Facebook page and if you have any useful information you would like us to publish please email admin@stradbrokeonline.org.uk

Best wishes and Keep Safe
